This is a follow-up to a post I made a while back about the ongoing weirdness surrounding Goodpeople Coffee linked here.

That thread focused mostly on the strange dynamic between Goodpeople and Bonsai Coffee, plus the owner’s aggressive replies to negative reviews.

Since then, I discovered that Goodpeople is still displaying an “A” health grade in their window even though they were downgraded to a “B” after rodent droppings were found on their grill. The placard is dated 1/31/24, and does not reflect their current health status.

In October 2024, LA County Public Health inspected Goodpeople Coffee and found fresh rodent droppings on a grill and food storage shelf, along with unapproved outdoor food storage, structural damage, and sanitation issues. Their health permit was suspended, and they were issued a “B” grade with a score of 82.

Their permit was reinstated a few days later once the rodent issue was resolved but multiple other violations remained, including:

  • 40+ bags of green coffee beans stored in unapproved outdoor containers
  • Peeling paint and missing wall panels in food prep areas
  • Gaps in doors and accumulated coffee bean debris on the floor

A follow-up inspection on November 14, 2024 confirmed these violations were still not fixed. A reinspection was scheduled for November 27, but as of now, no updated report appears in the public records.

Despite all of this, Goodpeople is still displaying a bright blue “A” placard dated 1/31/24 in their front window even though it no longer reflects their actual inspection grade.

Lots of great places get dinged and bounce back but given the strange behavior displayed by the owner, I can't help but think this isn't just an oversight. He’s repeatedly shown a pattern of avoiding responsibility in how he responds to negative reviews, he’s currently involved in a lawsuit with his next-door neighbor, and he often defaults to immature, insecure behavior when challenged.

LA County’s online health inspection database doesn’t allow direct links to individual reports. If users want to independently verify these reports, they can do so by searching "Goodpeople" here: https://ehservices.publichealth.lacounty.gov/servlet/guest?service=1&enterprise=1
