Well according to me, it looks like you’re having a great summer! Looks delicious, I hope you enjoyed it!

I think your dad doesn’t value anything if he thinks making some rice and slicing some raw fish is some kind of time investment that could be spent in other ways. The only thing I could do faster than making sushi is doing drugs maybe.

  3. BarryPalmedTheDip

Sounds like your dad needs to take his ass to McDonalds instead of enjoying any sushi then

  4. toweljuice

Its literally you making a basic need tho lol

  5. Neutronpulse

Good job forming the Salmon over the rice. Those are nice cuts. Keep your knife sharp!! Great work!!

  6. Whoredonramsay

My stepdad does the same thing but in his free time he watches tv and sports lol

  7. mrchowmein

Well some people have very little respect for food. Looks good, keep it up. But anyways: Itadakimasu!

Is your dad okay? I think he might need to be taken to a hospital

  9. WolfOfPort

lol what takes like 15 mins to cook rice and prep everything duing that time

Time him to place a sushi pick up order see who wins…..

Does your dad spend hours getting drunk in front of a grill? Because that’s a huge time sink that he will not really remember.

  11. Alternative-Ad9127

If I was your dad I would’ve asked you to fix me a plate too

  12. CaptainBlondebearde

I’m sorry to hear that. I’d be so happy and proud if any of my kids were trying to make food all on their own.

  13. cooltea713705

Psh, he’s just jealous. Enjoy your meal!

  14. Make some for him too next time and he won’t bitch.

  15. EuclidYouNot

Is making food seen as having too much time now? That has to be one of the oddest takes I’ve ever heard.

  16. TryndMusic

I hope the fish is sashimi grade lots of gnarly salmon coming by work these days

  17. NihonJinLover

Sounds like my ex husband. Any hobby I engaged in that didn’t directly benefit him was a waste of my time and meant I wasn’t prioritizing appropriately.

  18. AdLoose6208

Does your dad also like telling people to pull themselves up by their bootstraps? Gettin’ that kind of energy…

  19. SouthernHouseWine

That sounds JUST like my parents when I was a teen AND now. They have this weird mentality that if you aren’t doing soul crushing or boring WORK then you are doing NOTHING. Work was the only reason they accepted to get out of planned family activities.

  20. Wrong-Wrap942

“Too much time” it’s summer break, the time is going to pass no matter what.

  21. scionvriver

It takes 20 minutes and that’s just waiting for the rice while the rice is on slice slice slice them make the vinegar mix. Your dad needs to watch you make it.

  22. Hookswords

If you’ve got time to make dinner, you have too much time on your hands?

  23. Kitchen_Life_7564

Making my family a sushi dinner saves me more money than I could make in that same time period. Plus, no income tax, sales tax, tip, or huge drink markups.

  24. Live-Smoke-29

Maybe just live off weight-gain powder so you have more time to study chemical engineering

  25. peanut_flamer

Your dad is a dumbass. If my son was making sushi on summer break, I’d figure out how to get him to make more!

  26. whoisgodiam

You really need to train under a true edomae master like Keiji Nakazawa-san at Sushi Sho New York.

  27. Looks delicious to me and I’d be proud of my kid.

    To each their own.

Enjoy your life the way you see fit.

I’d ask him for receipts on what he spent his summer doing that he thinks was a better use of time?

I’d also ask about every smoke, beer, hard liquor, meal that he made, or any time he wasted doing something that made him happy for few moments?

I’d remind him he’s yours dad and he’s supposed to be cheering you on and celebrating your victories teaching you how to grow as a person and learn new things and do things that make you happy and successful, not tearing you down like everyone else in the rest of the world is going to try to.

  28. lucideuphoria

Him doing X (fishing, woodworking, grilling, etc.) means he has too much time over summer break too I guess.

  29. Platitude_Platypus

Learning to make sushi is a skill I desire as it’s my favorite food. Learning how to make something so good can’t be a waste of time. It looks great, OP. I’ll eat your dad’s portion!

  30. BeaverGrowl

Sounds to me like he’s disappointed in you for other reasons and is now adding petty things to the list.

  31. BananaEuphoric8411

Tell him ur saving money from eating sushi out.

  32. dabblesest

He’s right! You should sell it as a ghost kitchen through the indentured servitude of uber eats!

  33. Too much time on YOUR summer break? 🤨🤔
    Make it make sense….🤦🏼

Whining about parents is a great way to get upvotes on Reddit.
