I’m trying to decide on these 3 and was wondering if anyone has any experience or recommendations!
I grew up on southern, soul, and Cajun food my whole life and trying to incorporate a vegan diet, and was looking at these and seeing if anyone has any experience with these and what they might recommend!

I don’t have any experiences with these cookbooks but I have made some of Mississippi Vegan’s recipes from their blog and they’re really good, albeit complex.

Mississippi Vegan is one of my favorite cookbooks of all time!

This isn’t on your list but I borrowed Afro-vegan from my library and the recipes looked awesome. Author is from Memphis, so lots of good southern eats

All of these are available at my public library. If you haven’t checked there, I’d see. That way you can try them first

Lauren Hartmann’s book is amazing! I love the chicken and sage biscuits, the Brussels sprouts and creamy grits recipe is one of my most frequent cooked. It has the best recipe for cauliflower wings I’ve come across. I’m biased because it’s the only one of the three I have but those are some of my highlights.

Southern Vegan is really good! There is a cinnamon streusel peach bread in there that I think dream about weekly.

Mississippi Vegan is solid. The salted Rosemary chocolate chip cookies are delicious. Really, have not had a bad recipe from it, but I would put it on the same level as the Veganomicon in that some of the best recipes are also the most labor intensive

I’ve cooked a lot of Lauren’s recipes from her blog and they’re all great! She’s not my go to for healthy vegan but she makes from great dishes! Also, I’m not even close to southern so maybe my opinion doesn’t matter.

Mississippi Vegan is like the first cookbook I look at when I want to make something. Everything I’ve made from there is so good and flavorful. It’s also just a very beautiful book as well.

I just recently purchased Mississippi Vegan, every recipe so far (particularly the red beans – labor intensive, a lot of ingredients but SO worth it) are very good. My family lives in the Gulf Coast of MS so these recipes hit home for me!

I don’t know anything about the other two, but I’ve made a ton of the dishes in Mississippi Vegan and loved them all

I suspect that you would also enjoy Sweet Potato Soul!

Mississippi Vegan is such a solid cookbook. Some of the recipes are a little complex, but there’s a healthy mix of simple and complex. I have thrown a whole dinner party with recipes from that book and everyone really enjoyed them.
The Highly Sophisticated Chocolate Chip Cookies with rosemary and pecans are a huge hit every time I take a batch to work. Like, gone within minutes and I’ve been asked to bring them to work functions. Same for the Dark Chocolate Olive Oil Cookies. Zuppa Toscana is also delicious – and I still make it every winter.
Just overall a solid book.
I would also recommend The Korean Vegan.

One recommendation is Sweet Potato Soul. Bryant Terry also has good cookbooks with southern food. (My husband is from southern Virginia and cooks vegan southern food)

I second the ‘check then out at your local library’ to try before you buy!! I do this all the time!

I’m not familiar with that book. We have 2 books of his– Vegetable Kingdom and afro- vegan. Both are excellent! 😊

I absolutely love Southern Vegan (third one). It’s my most utilized cookbook.

Mississippi vegan is great if you like conversational cookbooks that have tidbits about the author and their background. It’s also a beautifully produced book.

i LOVE Lauren Hartmann, her recipes are easy, creative, and delicious!

That Mississippi vegan has some great gumbo recipes. Some of the Ingredients are tough to find but phenomenal
I have Vegan Soul Food and it came across as AI slop to me.

I have and use the Southern Vegan cookbook all the time, it’s awesome. If you wanted to test out some of her recipes, check out the Rabbit & Wolves blog, so many amazing recipes there.

Well I know what’s going on my wish list.

Hands down Mississippi Vegan. The other two are okay. Timothy’s recipes are more involved but way better and way more authentic. Embrace slow cooking! Also the photography is gorgeous.
