This particular sourdough was a crumbling and soft. It crisped up well and was still soft under the crust. Used Shredded Cheddar and spread artichoke bruschetta in the center.

Sourdough is great, but Rye and Pumpernickel are awesome variations too!

King…maybe but it’s an ez top choice to make it fancier. I think it’s fair to call classic the king

Yes sourdough is the best. I love buttering the bread, putting the cheese inside and then microwaving it for like 45 seconds to help melt the cheese, but it also melts the butter deep inside the bread and softens it up. Then I grill it and it’s so crispy on the outside but soft and gooey inside of that. You gotta try it!

Personally, I like fluffier breads like brioche or even challah style bread for French toast.

Really funny you asked. During COVID lockdown in about late April I got a craving for a grilled cheese. I went to the store to get some sourdough and they didn’t have any. 5 months later I’m making a few loaves each week.
