A neighbourhood restaurant which has just been rated as the best in the region has lots to celebrate and this August it is inviting customers to raise a glass at a Soaked Wine Fair.. Long Friday in Jesmond – a favourite for laid-back dining and drinks – is co-hosting a ‘wine fair for the north’ and this will bring an opportunity to taste more than 100 wines from some of the top importers in the country.
The restaurant opened by Anna Hedworth in 2021 is co-hosting the fair with the restaurateur’s other restaurant Cook House, in the Ouseburn, which is to be the location for the August 10 event. As previously reported, Long Friday was named by the Good Food Guide as the winner in the North East and Yorkshire category of its new list of the 100 Best Local Restaurants 2025.
Its chefs will be busy cooking up a menu for Soaked along with their Cook House colleagues for an all-day BBQ on the terrace and there will be tastings and cocktails along with masses of wines. The fair will open first to trade members then the public session will get under way at 1pm and will run until 5pm.

Suppliers and producers will be showcasing wines from all over the world and they will be spread across two floors at the Cook House in Foundry Lane. And the choice will be huge with importers including Element Wines, Central Wines, Sager & Wine, Dynamic Vines, Otros Vinos, Roland Wines, Les Caves De Pyrene, Progression Wines and Champagne Lasseaux.
Talks and free workshops will take place throughout the afternoon too. The fair is making a return following its success over the past two years and it’s described as ‘a lovely day full of wine, BBQ, tastings, talks, cocktails and fun’.
Tickets cost £40 and are available to book online: see here. For trade tickets – which require details of place of work – see here.
