Two souls meet on a plate
Il Moro’s cuisine is born from the constant dialogue between two worlds: on the one hand, the sunny and profound soul of Sicily, the homeland of the Butticè brothers; on the other, the refined practicality of Brianza, which welcomed them and encouraged them to grow. The result is a cuisine that thrives not on contrasts but on harmony. A risotto can embrace the aromas of the Sicilian sea, while alpine butter blends with oil from the Iblei mountains. The gesture is Sicilian, but the hand has evolved here, in the Brianza region. Theirs is a new gastronomic language, made up of memory, listening, and sensitivity.
A family, a shared vision
For the Butticè family, running a restaurant is an act of love and a project of consistency. Every day is about sharing a vision, complicity, and mutual respect. Every dish tells a part of their story, every detail of the service speaks of care and authenticity. The welcome you receive at Il Moro stems from sincere bonds and the strength of a shared identity that is constantly being renewed.
Cuisine that reflects the territory
Since 1996, Il Moro has been a reference point in Monza for those seeking seafood cuisine inspired by Sicilian tradition. Since 2007, under the guidance of the Butticè family, the menu has been enriched with vision, becoming a profound synthesis between Sicily and Lombardy. The menu evolves with the seasons, alternating Mediterranean ingredients and local influences, balancing taste, simplicity, and refinement. Today, the restaurant stands out for its authentic, accessible, and refined cuisine.
Three dishes, three portraits of identity
The story of their cuisine is clearly expressed in three symbolic dishes. L’Assoluto di gamberi e caponata (shrimp and caponata) is a visceral tribute to Sicily: sweet, sour, and deep like the sea. Paccheri Senatore Cappelli con gamberi di Sicilia (Senatore Cappelli pasta with Sicilian shrimp) represents the encounter between excellence and simplicity: a straightforward, sincere dish. The steamed morone fish steak with citrus and fennel sauce, on the other hand, looks to the contemporary: light, refined, balanced. These dishes paint a portrait of a cuisine that is both rooted and innovative, sunny and rigorous.
Butticè menus
Each menu is a journey into the ingredients and creative thinking of the Butticè family. The tasting menus bring three different stories to life:
In Sicilia con i Butticè (In Sicily with the Butticès) – the essence of Sicilian cuisineRi-Conoscenza (Re-Discovery) – a tribute to the flavors and memories of BrianzaPasseggiata in Italia (A stroll through Italy) – a food and wine tour of regional specialties
Each menu is born from an act of listening: to the land, the seasons, the silence of nature. Sicily and Brianza become sources of inspiration that intertwine in a unique gastronomic narrative. Often it is a single ingredient – a citrus fruit, a wild herb, a freshly caught shrimp – that guides the creative process. Il Moro’s cuisine unfolds like a journey, never as a mechanical sequence of courses. It is a tribute to biodiversity and raw ingredients, transformed with respect, technique, and heart.
Beauty as a silent language
The environment is cared for with the same attention given to the dishes: simple, elegant design, never excessive. Works by artist Federico Casati, in collaboration with Leogalleries, are on display, and ceramic details from the Caltagirone school complete the atmosphere. Every gesture, every detail of the dining room is part of a harmonious story in which form and content support each other.
The wine cellar: roots and vision
The wine list, curated by Antonella Butticè, sensitively explores the finest Italian and European wines. Alongside native Sicilian and Lombardy vines, there are selected labels from France, Germany, and Austria, with a particular focus on artisanal and organic productions. The pairings are designed to enhance every nuance of the cuisine.
The biggest challenge: winning trust
Opening Il Moro in Brianza was initially a huge leap of faith. Bringing a cuisine with such a strong identity to a different region required patience and perseverance. Proving every day that tradition and modernity can coexist, that the flavors of the South could be welcomed with elegance in the North, was a labor of love. The difficulties – from economic crises to the pandemic – never dampened the flame, thanks to family cohesion and the affection of customers.
The region as a horizon
Sicily and Brianza represent an extraordinary heritage of biodiversity, agricultural culture, and authentic flavors for the Butticè brothers. The region is an inspiration, but also a responsibility. It means supporting local producers, choosing according to the season, and reducing waste. The connection to the land is always present in the kitchen, but not as a limitation: rather, as roots from which a constantly evolving story springs forth.
Between origins and vision, the future
For the future, the Butticè brothers envision evolution and deep roots. Roots provide strength and consistency, forming the foundation of a cuisine that speaks the language of memory. But evolution is necessary: to respond to a changing world, to refine technique, and to embrace new challenges. Il Moro continues to grow as a place of awareness, where cuisine is a language and hospitality is confirmed every day as a gesture of attention and care.
