Cepelinai and virtinukai. Before I get yelled at for this place being in the suburbs, know that the best Lithuanian places in the city (Palanga, Healthy Foods) are long gone.

Hell yeah! I love Lithuanian food! The Chicago area is so special in that we still have some Lithuanian restaurants left. I’m not sure if there’s anywhere else in the whole country with a Lithuanian restaurant, let alone multiple.
I highly recommend checking out cafe Smilga sometime, as they’re my favorite. Also in the area is Cafe Ruta, but I have not checked them out yet as they do not have a weekend dinner service (unless you go really early).

In Palos Hills, Lithuanian Plaza is great for some takeout and a little shopping.
The only place left in city limits for Lithuanian food is Racine Bakery on Archer, down by Midway. I have not made the trek out there yet, but I’ve heard great things. I’ve picked up their bacon buns at grocery stores, and they’re delicious!

  2. It would be silly for anyone to give you crap about this being in the suburbs when that’s where the majority of the Lithuanian community resides. The Lithuanian World Center sure ain’t in Chicago. Thanks for sharing, I added this to my list!

  3. Have you done Grand Duke’s? They used to be in Summit/Bridgeview area (where I live), but relocated out to DG some years back. Miss them.

EDIT: I guess this is the same place, just their to-go.

Smilga on 83rd and Lemont Road is the most authentic imo
