These sprouted from reaper seeds I tossed in some dirt for giggles

What do I do now? I want them to live but I’m in a pretty cold climate

I’m selling some grow lights if you’re interested DM me and I’ll send you pictures.

What would make you think the seeds are sterile?

You can get all that you need for a decent indoor growing setup for a couple hundred bucks if you have the space. I have a vivosun light, fan, and a generic metal rack that I bought on Amazon. Same as you, my climate isn’t ideal for growing much.

Out of curiosity one summer I planted some Jiffy Pop kernels and they germinated and began to grow but they started to grow weird and deformed. I eventually yanked them because they just weren’t growing in any positive way.

I wouldn’t say all commercial reapers are sterile but some can be. It really depends on the variety and the grower.

A lot of commercial produce is hybrid varieties and seeds taken from hybrid varieties will not grow true to their parent. That doesn’t mean they won’t grow and you won’t get edible peppers but you might not get the exact type of reaper the seeds came from but instead something within the peppers genetics.

If it is from fruits you have grown you might not get reapers when these guys set fruit though, since they might have been cross pollinated.

    Ugh, Cougar cheese.

Both my folks went to WSU. There was so much of that stuff in my house growing up that I thought there was only one cheese maker in the world when I was little.

Peppers are fine just keep them above freezing. Get them in some sun and see what happens! Bring them inside at night if you have to. Or make a little greenhouse.

I have a reaper plant I got from a local nursery. If I plant the seeds next year, what are the chances I’ll get reapers? Is it worth it?

  9. Love that cheese!

And I’ve grown a lot of things from the grocery store that are supposed to be sterile.

I live in Ontario, I just bring my peppers inside each fall and overwinter them.
