Flour Italian Kitchen in Moreland Hills is temporarily closed after a fire that occurred in the late afternoon hours of July 29.
The Chagrin Falls Fire Department received a call at about 2:56 p.m. via fire alarm notification, which alerted the workers at the station that something had triggered the system at the restaurant at 34205 Chagrin Blvd.
“When we got there, there was an actual fire so the alarm system did its job,” Chagrin Falls Fire Chief Frank Zugan told the Cleveland Jewish News. “We got mutual aid from Orange, Solon, Russell and Pepper Pipe along with (our department). There was about 30 firefighters on the scene at one time.”
The blaze started in the kitchen and the damage was contained to the ceiling and walls of the cooking area with the ducts also receiving some harm from the small fire, Zugan said.
The cause is remains under investigation, but the fire was ruled accidental, he said.
SOM Center Road from Chagrin Boulevard to Stonewood Drive was closed while crews were on scene putting out the fire, but the area was back open to travelers by 5:10 p.m.
“There were no injuries and that’s the way we like it,” Zugan said.
Flour announced on Instagram and Facebook that it will be closed for the foreseeable future following the blaze.
“Thankfully, everyone is safe,” the restaurant said in the statement. “We’re grateful to the Chagrin Valley Fire Department for their swift response. We’re currently assessing the damage and will share updates on our reopening as soon as we have a clearer picture.”
Opened in 2011 by chefs Paul Minnillo and Matt Mytro, Flour offers pizza, fresh hand-cut pasta and other Italian dishes in addition to its bar and wine selection.
The restaurant also runs a catering service and Flour Pasta Co., which offers online ordering and direct delivery of three variants of pasta. This year, the brand partnered with Meijer to offer its products in store and expand itself into the retail space.
