
My bud just got a new egg. I have been using my own for about 1.5 years. Is this the optimal way to sear tomahawks? Anyone got any good tips to get a better crust?

This certainly works. It’s how I generally do mine. The next best thing is a soapstone or a cast iron plate. both can be half stones so they don’t take up the whole cooking space. They both give you a super evenly distributed high heat searing surface for more even coverage. I use mine about the same amount as I use direct flame like you.
