Learn the tricks for eating good pasta when eating with friends
Italian cuisine is a temptation. Risotto, pizza, pasta, cheese and bread are mouth-watering. The list of delicacies in the country is long. And how do Italians manage to stay in shape while consuming these delicacies? The Italian knows how to combine flavor and health. The diet is rich in nutrients, vitamins, minerals and low-fat oils, which turns it into a true nutritional cauldron. Furthermore, it is based on a pyramid that balances food, the amount of liquid ingested and the frequency of physical exercises that must be practiced to increase quality of life, explains Carlo Cannella, director of the School of Specialization in Human and Clinical Nutrition at Sapienza University, in Roma, in Italy.
Italian food pyramid
The Italian food pyramid stipulates the recommended amount of each food to be eaten to avoid imbalances in the diet. This prevents serious consequences such as anemia and weight gain. “It’s no use just saying what people should eat without saying the ideal amount. Without this data, there could be a serious nutritional imbalance, as the energy content needed for a person who has a ‘normal’ lifestyle will be out of date”, explains nutritionist Carlo Cannella.
Learn to eat right
Some tips when eating at a restaurant can be essential to avoid slipping on your diet. The regret of overindulging at dinner can make anyone abandon their plans to get in shape. Before this happens, you need to know how to limit what you consume before sitting down at the table. But there is no need to give up the program.

To make the meal enjoyable and, at the same time, not compromise weight loss, some tricks can be a great solution.
– Discover the restaurant’s menu. Before leaving home, find out what is served where you are going. Call, ask for special, less caloric pastas.
– Many Italian restaurants (in São Paulo) offer all-you-can-eat pasta, but it is a mistake to choose this option because it is difficult to have a limit on the amount eaten. Order à la carte.
– Refuse entry. Of course, it’s not easy to resist Italian bread with butter, sardines, eggplant pasta or other items on the cover charge. But the main thing is to come and you need to save your hunger for the dough.
– Start the meal with the salad. A light, low-calorie option that helps satisfy your desire to eat before the main course.
– Generally, pasta portions in Italian restaurants (in Brazil) are well served, for two people. If you don’t intend to share the dish with someone, choose half a portion.
– Choose the pasta without filling and served with tomato sauce. Stay away from higher-calorie sauces, such as white, four cheeses and bolognese.
– A glass of red wine is permitted.
– For dessert, opt for fruits, which are generally lower in calories and can satisfy your desire for something sweet.
