New restaurant opens in Ocean Springs, offers ‘taste of Italy’ on Mississippi Gulf Coast

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WLOX) – There’s an all-new restaurant serving up Italian cuisine in downtown Ocean Springs.

After a soft launch over the weekend, Field’s Italian officially opened its doors to the public at 1106 Government Street on Tuesday.

Launched by the same ownership group that’s brought the region Bacchus on the Beach, Bacchus on the Bayou, Toro Sushi & Sake and Field’s Steak & Oyster Bar, Secret Coast Properties is hoping its latest offering serves up a ‘taste of Italy’ for dining enthusiasts in Ocean Springs.

That mission starts with house-made pasta and chef-crafted specialties.

“What we’re trying to do is bring more of a culinary scene as a restaurant to the Coast,” corporate executive chef Lauren Joffrion told WLOX News Now. “Kind of step away from the traditional coastal fare and step into something unique and different.”

Joffrion’s recommendations include her chef-special lasagna that is certain to satisfy the most discerning palettes.

“We use a very fennel-forward bolognese that we make in-house from scratch,” she explained. “Our ricotta mix is from scratch as well – handmade pasta sheets. We do put a little bit of spinach in ours as well because I do like a little bit of green. Some fresh herbs, house-made sauce and our five-cheese blend.”

Traditional spaghetti and meatballs have also been a hit, as well as their delectable house-made desserts.

Restaurant general manager Ashton Senn explained what makes Field’s Italian a must-try for cocktail enthusiasts, diners and even dinner parties with private rooms ready to accommodate groups of up to 25.

“The bar is set up to be more vibrant and outgoing, fun, relaxed,” she said. “The dining room is more relaxed, and casual, but also has that upscale feel at the same time with some good food.”

The Secret Coast’s motto, ‘eat, play, stay,’ will extend beyond Field’s Italian with the all-new Artesian Hotel and the upstairs Mirror Bar expected to open in the same building this spring.

The group, which owns 902 Howard Lofts in Biloxi, is also planning to open The Pass Bungalows to join other accommodations in Pass Christian which already include The Beach House and Hotel Pass Christian.
