So Minnesota: Man carries on ice cream tradition with Sprinkles

A Minnesota man is helping keep a sweet tradition alive one ice cream cone at a time.

Sprinkles in Roseville is a new ice cream shop with a long history.

“I didn’t know there was so many people with some connection to this building,” owner Tim Hughes said.

When Hughes grew up in the neighborhood, the building was home to a Dairy Queen.

“Was the oldest Dairy Queen in Minnesota,” Hughes said. “They built this building in 1947.”

When DQ closed in 2024 and went up for sale, Hughes and his business partner bought the building and opened Sprinkles this year.

“The line hasn’t stopped,” Hughes said. “I thank all of my customers for patience, kindness, and generosity.”
