AIKEN — A project put on hold by a local entrepreneur has begun moving forward again.
“It will be called La Scuderia. That means ‘The Stable’ in Italian,” said David Meunier recently of the restaurant he is preparing to open at the corner of York Street and Hampton Avenue. “It’s going to have healthy, light Italian food and pizza.”
The eatery will make its debut on the Northside “probably within the next 90 days or something,” Meunier added.
Plans call for the restaurant to offer delivery service to the New Bridge Polo & Country Club area, Couchton, Montmorenci and “all the way to Salley, I think,” Meunier said.
In addition, diners at the eatery will be able to get their cars detailed at a nearby location while they are enjoying their food, he told the Aiken Standard.
The restaurant site’s address is 455 York St.
In the name of 865 Marion Ct S LLC, Meunier purchased the property for $135,000 in October 2021.
He said back then that he wanted to open an Italian eatery with a Mediterranean flair.
Some renovation work on the 1,750-square-foot building that used to be Church’s Chicken was completed, but eventually the efforts to refurbish it stopped.
Meunier said the main reason he halted the project was the 2022 death of his son, Anthony, in a single-vehicle accident on Coleman Bridge Road between Aiken and Wagener.
“I loved my son, and business-wise he was working a lot with me, so when he died, I put a lot of things to the side,” Meunier said. “And now, I’m not better, but I’m less worse every day. I’ve got to keep going. My son would have liked me to do this.”
Meunier’s business ventures include the restaurant La Parisienne and various real estate investments.
He also is the owner of La Bourgogne Club de Polo.
