A local hardware store has brand new SmokeFire EX4’s on sale for $399. Worth it? Or should I look into the newer Weber smokers? Like the Searwood or the Smoque?

Ugh. I wish the Searwood looked as good as the Smokefire.

I would for that price, just know the quirks of it going in. I’ve had my ex6 since day 1 and I still use the hell out of it.
Make sure there is no finger guard, keep it clean and covered. Don’t use trash pellets

I’ve had my smoke fire for years and never had a single issue. FWIW I’ve also ever used Weber brand pellets. Not sure if it matters, but I didn’t want to risk it. And I’ve never ever heard of someone who kept it clean and ran Weber pellets having issues

  4. Yeah, mine was a tank. Never had a problem. Sears better than the Searwood. Rolls smoke like crazy.

  5. I would get it. I got one from a guy off marketplace and found out it was a gen1 contacted Weber and they sent me parts to upgrade it to a gen2. Sears well and smokes well too. Just take out the finger guard and make sure the glow plug has good contact with the igniter and you’re good to go.

It’s nickname is the Weber GreaseFire, and it’s been discontinued. Just things people ought to know before they buy one.

  7. I’ve only heard bad things about this one, and it’s been discontinued.

Because of reviews by people I trust, personally I would pass on this one and use the money to save up for the new model.

Literal line from the news of discontinuation was: “you’re going to find smokefires with heavy discounts, don’t be tempted by them.”
