welcome to The Sauce and Gravy Channel This
is Johnny Mac the Gravy Guy It’s Saturday so I’m going to quickly walk you through how
to make the ultimate baked beans recipe from scratch No shortcuts just real ingredients
bold flavor and that classic homemade taste Round up a saucepan preferably one that’s
oven safe I’m using a 3 and 1/2qt Dutch oven Drop in four slices of bacon that have
been chopped over medium to high heat Stir and cook the bacon until it’s just about to
turn lightly golden brown At that point you can add one sweet onion that has been diced Sweat the
onions over medium heat until they’re translucent and tender When the onion and bacon mixture
is right where you want it to be reduce the heat to low Now it’s time to start adding some
additional ingredients to this homemade baked bean recipe First off one 15oz can or 425 g of
tomato sauce If you’d like to see a full list of the ingredients check out the description
section of the video Round up a flat bottom spatula and give it a quick 360 and try to scrape
the sides and bottom of the pan to release that fond those bits and pieces up into the sauce
Next up to bat 1/4 of a cup or 63 ml of maple syrup To that add another 1/4 of a
cup or 63 ml of unsulphured molasses Remember those meals that made you feel at
home well they’re back with The Sauce and Gravy Channel second cookbook Comfort Foods Made
Simply Filled with scratch-made classics you’ll be proud to serve Creamy sauces slow simmered
flavor No cans no shortcuts just real cooking Step-by-step recipes real ingredients and QR codes
to transport you to free video tutorials to help guide you Cook with confidence share with love
These are the meals they’ll never forget See the link in the video’s comment and description
section to order now Real comfort starts now Grab your whole grain mustard and drop in 1
tbsp or 15 g Just to make sure that this baked bean recipe is sweet enough another 1/4 of a cup
or 60 g of dark brown sugar To that you’ll add one teaspoon of salt one teaspoon of paprika
half of a teaspoon of garlic powder half of a teaspoon of onion powder and half of a teaspoon
of chili powder If you’d like to make it hotter add some cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes
It’s your choice For a hint of smokiness half of a teaspoon of liquid smoke hickory flavor
Round up everybody’s favorite what’s it sauce? otherwise known as wooster sauce Pour in 1 tbsp
or 15 ml And it’s always good to spank in some black pepper Crank up the heat to medium Give
it a quick stir And then you can drop in the beans For this recipe I used one lb or 454 g
of dry navy beans I quickly cooked the beans in the Instant Pot by adding the dry beans and
pouring in water covering the beans by at least 2 in or 5 cm I pressure cook them on high for 25
minutes released the pressure naturally drained them and then added them to the sauce in the pot
Or if you prefer you can use three to four 15.5 ounce cans of navy beans Mix the beans into
the sauce over low to medium heat Bring the homemade baked bean recipe to a light
simmer At that point grab the lid put it on the baked beans and bake it in a preheated
oven at 325° F 163°C for 50 minutes to 1 hour After approximately an hour which gave you
plenty of time to finish off the rest of the food for a backyard barbecue or a picnic
or block party you’ve got this a delicious homemade baked bean recipe made with a from
scratch sauce Give it all a quick mix and then you’re ready to dive in and enjoy Thank

  1. This is exciting! Perfect for summer cookouts. And I got your newest book on Comfort foods. I love it! It is just as good as the first one on Sauces and Gravies. Thank you, Johnny Mac. 😀😀😀👍👍👍

  2. If I were to use raw beans 🫘 and soak them overnight (changing the water) how long would they need to cook in a pressure cooker. I don’t have an instapot. Thanks Love your sauce book and will get the next one.

  3. For a slightly different flavor profile, add a bit of Cloves to them, sounds odd but that flavor does work in beans, first time my sister did it, I thought she was crazy.

  4. I like to take the lid off about 10 minutes before taking it out of the oven to let the top get a little crispy. It just adds a bit of texture.

  5. Excellent recipe! I'm going to give this a shot this memorial day weekend. I loved your 1st cookbook and just ordered your second. Keep up the great work brother!

  6. Lea & Perrins is my go-to Worcestershire Sauce too. It only took me 20 years to realize there's a label on the bottle underneath the paper.
