It’s the end of July. Let’s see what we can harvest from the garden this morning. The first cantalopes of the season are ready. When a cantaloupe is ready, they change color and they naturally detach from the vine. It makes it really easy to make sure you’re harvesting them at the right time. This is a goodiz one today. That’s why I have these melon cradles, especially on the cantaloupe, because if I didn’t, these would just fall to the ground and I’m sure something in the middle of the night would end up eating them. So, you can definitely spot the difference from a mile away when a cantaloupe is ready. This is something else I’ve been waiting on for a really long time, and I’m shocked the birds haven’t gotten to them, honestly. I have some elderberry. I at least got enough elderberries where I feel like I can make a batch of elderberry syrup with them. I definitely have some peppers ready this morning. This is a variety called Hungarian Magar. It is a paprika variety that I have grown for years now. It’s one of my favorite peppers. I love stocking my spice cabinet. I also have some cayenne I need to get. So, without further ado, it’s pepper time. Also, looks like I have a few snacking peppers ready. Color on those are so pretty. And I’m pretty sure my carrots for this first round of the season are ready. Oh my gosh. I haven’t pulled carrots in honestly I think two or 3 weeks. That one’s a little funky. But oh my gosh, they look so good. Oh no, I broke that one. Some of these along the edge might be a bit smaller because this area right here does not get as much sun. Never mind. I was completely wrong cuz that is probably the biggest carrot of the year so far. I’m super happy about how these carrots look this morning. Here is our harvest. We have carrots, cantaloupe, elderberry, paprika peppers, snacking peppers, and cayenne peppers. I am going to stock my pantry with some paprika and cayenne powder. So, if you want to see how I make that, make sure you’re following along.

Less sun = more water = bigger veggies

How on earth do you grow carrots? I tried them for the first time this year in new raised beds with loose soil and the greens are huge but there’s hardly any root 😢
