I can literally walk into the nearest hole in the wall and wash dishes for a dollar more, what a joke.

I live in a small town and Chipotle starts you at $17.50 no experience. Starbucks is about the same.

I pay my dishies more. This is fucked. I’m mad.
thats-tough-lmao
I think these jobs are targeted towards 15-17 year olds. I couldn’t imagine being a grown adult making that much
sseemour
i mean its a chain restaurant. expect bare minimum and nothing less.
DarthChefDad
There was a Culver’s near me that was offering the same $14 for AGM, but required a Master’s in business or related field. This was pre-Covid.
Just looked them up again, and its up to $20! Degree requirement also missing.

One of the best advices a chef friend once told me was “know your worth” I’d never work for under AUD30ph. But also, there is something called “award pay” in Australia that is regulated by the government and it entitles you to be paid a minimum of what your qualifications equates to. Which means, cunts like these can’t advertise for less than the award wage. It’s not perfect, but it’s not as bad as where OP lives.

14 dollars for a year of management experience? Where do you even live?

Mc Donald’s in south Florida starting at 18.50.

We had a place that was closed for almost four years and when they reopened, they were trying to hire at pre Covid numbers (9-12 an hour)
bill_gannon
You mean you dont want to work days and nights running someone else’s business for 29k a year?
PinkPoncho3
i’ve worked at my place for 3 years and only make $13.50 and get like 10 hours a week. i asked them for 35, yet they still complain about being short staffed.
PatchesDaHyena
This is how much I got paid as a line cook at a wannabe bougie “James beard awarded” place and there was no supervising whatsoever and I still left because it wasn’t worth it

I’ve seen signs for Tacobell where I’m at, says they start at $18.50

Our Cracker barrel pays $21/hr on weekends for anyone who knows why there are 3 sinks & can make pancakes from a mix.

No one wants to pay a living wage anymore.
The blatant greed of the upper class is getting really ugly. Food service of any kind is brutal and repetitive work.
Magic_Mike57
My budtenders at my dispo make more than this plus tips.
Geekenstein
And this is why they’re giving people food poisoning.
reddiwhip999
OP mentions this is in northeastern Pennsylvania, so I’m going to assume Wilkes-Barre, or the region around that. Just looked up average hourly pay for McDonald’s in Wilkes-Barre, and it’s $15.84 per hour.
The local pizza place down the road hires kids in high school to work for more than that…
Equivalent_Helpful
That’s $4.50/hr less than min wage here.
armex88
This is a specific effort to eliminate the middle class. Keep most jobs lower paying so the rich can keep all the wealth
Description-Alert
Last year I had two interviews for a cook position. Both advertised as full-time. I get to the interview and they say it’s actually part-time 🫠 Both requiring weekends and evenings. One offered only $16 🫠🫠 and the other offered $17.50 with my sous chef experience 🫠🫠🫠

Same shit as trucking (and most job markets) in the UK. They will keep posting insultingly low rates and will allow the absolute legal minimum for breaks wherever possible, so long as people will fill the role. They’re not looking to build a business, they’re looking to “fill vacancies” even if that means turnover is massive and they end up with a bunch of miserable cunts working for them
bluestargreentree
But you aren’t taking the employee discount into account!
Even-Tradition
I don’t know what you’re whinging about? $14 is almost enough to cover your rent. /S
Pichupwnage
I make more then that hourly with tips in addition to that as non management and I’m not even in a high cost of living(relatively speaking) area.
They can eat shit lmao
an_angry_dervish_01
They seem to be paying illegal immigrant wages, shame on them.
spicyfartsquirrel
Many don’t want to work anymore, but there is also places thinking they can pay 2013-2014 wages

Low tier dishwashing gigs start at 18$ where I am at
ParhelionLens
Places in my area are offering $7.25/hr, 4-5hr shifts. Like… It would cost me to work for you.
BitchyWaiter_OG
Wanting to work is the stupidest concept and a load of crap. People want to survive, provide and thrive. And working is a way to do that. And if you’re passionate about a job, you’ll want to do that. But nobody WANTS to barely get by on some soul-sucking job they hate. They do it b/c they have to. The people who tell you you should “want to work” are the same people who buy up companies so they don’t have to work.
Hammeredjarl
I start my line cooks at 18.99, really think someones gonna run the whole place for 14? Ridiculous
Happy_Acanthisitta39
Exactly why I left the industry 12 years ago.
BombShiggityDizzle
these wages wouldn’t make it possible to rent in that area lol
Soft6Hard7
That’s what I pay 14 year olds to run the register at my place .
quadfrog3000
I’m almost surprised they don’t have an education requirement as well.
Gindotto
You need to be available 7 days a week, 14 hours out of the day, with less than 24 hours notice on shift changes and absolutely no taking a day off unless you give 3 months notice and even that we reserve the right to deny it. Absolutely no sickness. 31 hours a week max. $12/hr.
