Are these a good color for hot dogs over charcoal? Grew up without a father so I’m trying to get great at grilling. Thanks for any feedback!

Good job, son.
hamhead
Really just comes down to what you like
Yogalien
Yeah man those look great! Get some buns or bread and whatever mustard, relish, etc you like and let’s eat! Like anything worth doing, getting great at grilling takes practice so keep doing it over and over and over every weekend even if you burn something just keep doing it and you will get great.
MD_Firefighter3212
Looks great. Some folks like them darker, even bunt. Never could figure that out. Hope you are cooking more food since you have all that nice looking coal going. You could cut the coals in half if just doing those dogs.
rileydogdad1
They look great, cooked through. Most people would probably like them this way.
I prefer slightly burnt with some black and some of the skins split. But that is just me,,
You are going great.
RFKs_brain_worm
Looks good to me! Hot dogs don’t need much, all about how you like them. I like mine with a little more char.
Agreeable-Media-6176
Looking great man, and no matter what they always taste better off of charcoal.
boarfox
You nailed it, one small step at a time. The journey is a fun one. You could try scoring them (or sausages) gently next time to see how YOU like it regardless of what others say. It’s about finding your own way. Keep at it!

Your best friend when it comes to grilling IMO is a thermometer- takes all the guess out of “if it’s done”; which matters more with pork and chicken. To answer your question, looks good!

You got this bro. Two facets to grilling dogs. One is to get the grill marks/color on them and the other is to make sure you get them up to 160F internal. You’ll get a feel for the timing. You can always move them to the edge/off the direct heat if you just need to get them to temp and don’t want them to be a blacked out mess.
If you want to really get crazy you can cut spirals into them; they cook a bit faster and there’s more surface for caramelization and the condiments to be layered on. Some good recipes out there to look up. Good luck🫡
alabamdiego
Keep going. Char them bad boys.
Salty-Ganache3068
Perfect. Pull them. Char is over rated.
WingYour
They look great. You can use a lot less charcoal however.
Many_Consequence7723
I usually ask how people like them done because getting more char just means a couple more minutes on each side. Or I just make a variety and let people choose. Either way, you did fantastic.
Human_Reflection_166
Great job.

Over the years I’ve cooked hot dogs in many ways. We’ll stick to grilling for this purpose. Got a little drunk and they’ve come out a little “extra crispy” and they’re delicious. Been a little high and didn’t let them sit too long and they’re delicious. My dumbass decided to grill once during my team being in the World Series and those dogs were a real mixed bag and they were delicious.
I’d say there two rules to grilling dogs
1) as long as they’re somewhere between cold and burnt to a crisp, you’re probably fine
And most importantly
2) if you had fun grilling and enjoyed the end product, can’t no one say anything to you
Successful-Count-120
They look great! I would smash…
antsonafuckinglog
Fuck yeah!

Those are mint bro

You’re doing great. With bbq, It’s a process of trying a few and then another few at different cook times to decide what YOU like and what the fam likes. Take your time. Enjoy the journey
daroyalewcheese
Perfect, I’ll take two dogs!
jeremy_wills
Maybe just leave them on a tad longer next time but looks like you were there.
Trial and error. Practice makes perfect. You’re doing great. When do we eat? 😋
Comprehensive-Bet56
You nailed the cook! Want to one up, grab your buns. Spread mayonnaise on the inside, work with me hear its like butter, open them up and grill mayonnaise side down to toast. Just a few minutes.
monkeysareeverywhere
These are perfect for the masses! I personally like mine just shy of burnt, but I wouldn’t cook them that way for guests.
What brand of charcoal?
LeviSalt
You can direct dad questions my way anytime you want!
Bentonvillian1984
This looks great. Get yourself an electric meat thermometer and look up all the right cook times.
KIT907
Looking great pal. I’ll take two, please!
MrPanda663
Nice job, if you want to keep it warm without over cooking, move the coals to one side. So when meat is cooked, you can just move it to the side.
JamAndJelly35
Great work!! You gotta have some of of your wonton pass this along to. Not telling you what to do, just a suggestion.
arrleh117
My boys (6 & 8) like a little char… you’ll be a great dad one day!
Ed_The_Bloody
My wife likes them this side of charcoal. To me, yours look fine.
sharpescreek
Quick roll, count to 10 and yummy.
Chandy1313

SkullandBoners
Hey, I grew up with a father and he can’t grill for shit and my grill game 6 out just fine. You are doing good OP.
AshleyCanales
Look great! Please be mindful about grilling on a wooden deck. Try burgers next. Keep it up!
SpiritAnimalLeroy
I’ve always gone by the rule of “once they split, they’re good to go.” Although I do prefer a bit of char on mine too.
siliconwally
They are looking great!
fyrfyterx
nice job boyoo. Keep at it
Haggis_Forever
I’m picky. I think these look perfect.
My wife prefers her charred, but I think most guests are gonna be very happy with those.
Ron_Fuckin_Swanson
Grab a digital meat thermometer
Best dad grilling advice I can give is pay attention to the internal temps of grilled/smoked food.
It’s a real game changer
You can really dial in the tastiness
whiskeyinmyginger
10/10 would eat
Daftdoug
Too much charcoal
