I don’t have much else to say. But I entered the fair competition for her, in her honor. And every single thing that could possibly go wrong has gone wrong. My fridge just died (aka my pumpkin might be bad bad morning…I’ve put it on a bed of ice in the fridge and kept the door shut, so who knows). The oven essentially caught on fire yesterday. The can opener broke. My nail broke. The apples were too small and for the first time ever I had wayyyyy too little filling. And several other issues. It’s been an event. But hey, I tried.

They look amazing. Your mother would be proud!

This is a great way to honor her memory. I lost my mom to cancer and inherited her cookbooks. Every now and then I will pull one out and make something that she had bookmarked. It brings back memories and helps the family to feel that she is still with us.

Similiar for me. My mom was killed last year. She had won many ribbons for pies over the years. I have her recipes now and bake a lot of pies.

Losing a parent unexpectedly and much earlier in life than one should is a terrible club to join but it’s been comforting to meet others in this struggle.

I bet she’d be proud you went for it. And it’s awesome you learned her recipe, feels like a part of her you get to keep with you.

Those are beautiful. It’s lovely that you keep her hobby going.

I’m sorry about your mom! My mom also died really suddenly and unexpectedly last year too so I “get it”. I’ve been coping by cooking and baking a lot too, it helps me make feel close to her. Your pies look scrumptious!

My granny always used to say that if a recipe went smoothly it was missing emotion and wouldn’t taste right. So this is going to taste like absolute heaven. 🙂

I would like to smash my face right into that deliciously browned leafy crust on that apple pie. Gorgeous.

I am so sorry for your loss, and I hope you win. Even if you don’t, I hope you enjoy that pie and that the next time you bake, things work out smoothly. ❤️

I am so sorry for you. I lost my grandmother many years ago. She was so great, she set the table every time I came: appls / cabbage pies, crepes, salads, meat with potato and so on. She could make tasty even buckwheat for a child. I was so sad, when she died, I was still a child back then. But I believe that I inherited her passion for food and cooking, and for that I am grateful.

My mum also has cancer on a terminal stage right now, so.. People come and go in this world, but what important is time that we had together, memories that we shared, changes that people made in us. So we can continue the cycle with our children and other people that close to us

I’m sorry for your loss, OP. I lost someone close recently, it’s really hard.

She would be proud of you for making this. Good on you.

  20. I feel you, OP. My mum will be gone a year in a few days time. I’m positive those gloriously looking pies taste wonderful because of all the love for her you out into it! Win or lose at the fair, you’re a winner here!
