  1. My dad had a stroke when I was 3. But we had a tradition of BBQ T-bone, corn on the cob, and baked potato for our birthdays. For my 7th birthday, he sat at our back door in a wheelchair and talked me through everything. From that day on, I was the grill master of the house, even when grown ups would come over. I learned to clack tongs at uppity dads who wanted to get up in my grill.

    My dad died 6 years later. But he lives with me today. (Just pulled a 17.5 lb brisket for dinner in 3 hours)

    Cherish the time you have with pops.
