The Italian Embassy in Manama held a prologue to the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, set to take place later in November of this year, by organizing a Pasta from Scratch, course held at the Youth City 2030 between July 17 and 31.
The course was led by Chef Francesca Bottacci, whose passion and infectious energy ignited a deep curiosity and admiration among 30 talented young Bahraini apprentice chefs for Italy’s rich culinary traditions, cultural heritage, and language.
Chef Bottacci selected five iconic pasta shapes and sauces from among hundreds of traditional Italian recipes, using them as a flavorful lens to explore the health, culture, and innovation that define Italian cuisine—core themes of Italian Cuisine Week in the World.
Sustainability and hands-on creativity
Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs as part of the Youth City 2030, the course captivated participants not only with its celebration of authentic Italian food culture, but also with its emphasis on sustainability and hands-on creativity.
“Italian cuisine represents a healthy, balanced, and sustainable food model,” stated the Ambassador of Italy to the Kingdom of Bahrain, H.E. Ambassador Andrea Catalano, “enriched by innovation and research processes that characterize the entire food cycle.
The approval of Italian cuisine’s candidacy for UNESCO intangible cultural heritage will be another piece in the incredible mosaic of the taste and tradition of Italian cuisine and all its regional specialties.
It is an immense wealth of knowledge that we are pleased to make available to young Bahrainis.”
