When I start at a new place I’m always uncomfortable, which makes me not hungry and just want to be left alone and do the work, until I get used to the place. They always think I’m trying to impress someone when I’m just awkward.

But yeah, hard work is rarely rewarded.

To be fair to those who do this type of thing (me), sometimes if I stop working for a minute I get super tired and remember I’m in hell.

If I get done early, I leave early.

It depends where you are I guess. Where I live now breaks and mandatory and more or less non-negotiable. Owners will get mad if you’re not taking them because they can get in trouble over it.

Where I used to live, there is no such break laws. You are not given any. You get to maybe step outside and smoke as long it’s slow. But once you’re done smoking, you’d better find something to clean if there’s no orders

To whom ever wrote this I’m so sorry to who ever hurt you, but it’s ok to work well and hard without guilt. Speaking as a chef that provides a healthy work environment that is.

What is this lunch of which you speak? and breaks, well no I have not seen them around these parts.

Even better, you start working in a new kitchen and ALL the vets skip their breaks. Yeah, no, I am out of here.

Haha I may not technically be rewarded the way you’re talking about, however my exec spoils tf outta me and if I ever need a day off she’s got me covered

“They take the food from your pay, grab a take away box and ask the chef for something for something microwaveable when it’s quiet”
That usually works after 1 or 2 reminders.

New hire here! I ain’t skipping breaks or lunch because I’m waiting on a reward, I’m skipping breaks and lunch because I’m the only one who still has the energy to do prep tasks.

They’ll get rewarded. They’ll get to do their work and the work of all of those other people that take all day on one project.

  11. I’ve had my GM ask me why I like going home on time instead of staying longer to help out. Don’t have it in me to tell him that I refuse to be taken advantage of again.

I have come back to my station from 10 minute breaks, and wished I had never left.

I have also come back, then had FOH bring me a recall.

So I tend to get annoyed at the prospect of a co worker being half asses and messing up my jam.

Poor thing. I used to be one of that. Now they hired a new operations manager that works 16hs a day.

I do my 8hs, my break, no overtime, and go home and my work phone on mute ir only rings for favorite contacts for emmergency.

If I had to stay, of course I will, but onky if extremely necessary.

The owner at one managers meeting was saying we should come and to surprise visits over closing to see if something is happening, I just said: or maybe you should invest and hire more managers.

I’ll never sell my health again. We go sick, and we’re replaced like chiller magnets.

This is me as a bartender. It’s not uncommon for my coworkers to take 3-5 shits and smoke breaks in a 6hr shift
