I can’t say it speaks to me but I’m glad it hit the spot for you! Not even some herbs or some red pepper flakes?

  2. thatquinnchick

I immediately knew exactly where this was from, ha.

I just had my first New Haven style tomato pie on Sunday night. It’s everything I want in a pizza!

As a kid, I always loved just red sauce and italian bread for dipping. Not even breadsticks, just the light bread slices and the sauce my mother would make. Fast forward to this year, trip to Italy where my Grandmother is from – Gaeta (1 hr south of Rome on the coast). I found a tiny bakery open since 1896 where they had just 5 things for sale, one of which is tomato pie like the above but on a personal pan/pita size piece of bread. “Ah that’s where I get that from”

Things I like on a tomato pie:

    1. Follow Your Heart: Parm

    2. Kalamata Olives

    3. Artichoke hearts

    4. Capers

    5. Basil

    6. small thin slices of garlic

Pick one or more than one and mix/match

cheese is the most simple. cashew cheese can fill that. dont just say tomato pie because thats the lame. do better and dont act like cheese isnt good.

  8. You should post this in r/RhodeIsland! We love tomato pies!

  9. I was gonna say something, but you pointed out that this is actually a style of pizza near you, so I concede lol!

That said OP, I ain’t got nothing on these pro pizza shops, but I’ve been making rectangle pizzas in my 13×9(too cheap to get a pizza stone) and they’ve been coming out amazing, $1.50 store bought dough from walmart + a sauce I make w/ san marzano tomatos(4-5 bucks I can’t remember,) and bag of $4 better goods mozz from walmart and you’re good to go!! It’s cheap, and I usually get at least 3 pies out of the the sauce I make AND the 4 dollar bag of mozz.

Usually top it w/ left over protein I make like seitan or tofu, it hits everytim

The pie looks perfect. I wish I lived closer.

Needs vegan parm (raw almonds, nutritional yeast and salt) and fresh basil.

  12. TheBigFreeze8

‘Hey, can I get a pizza without please?’

  13. Subversive_Noise

That crust looks good. I’ve never had the opportunity to try New Haven style, but I love a nicely well done cook on a pie.

  14. Look I’m going to be real, a lot beats a simple tomato pie 😛 but appreciate the love and appreciation for the humble tomato pie

Enjoy your ginormous breadsticks with marinara sauce. I will be ordering mine soon…..

  16. VanillaPotential76

This is how pizza was originally, vegan 😀

  17. This is how i used to have pizza when it was assumed i had a dairy allergy. I really enjoyed it.

  18. Lucky_Sprinkles7369

It looks really good! Never tried it before, but have to try it now!

  19. Uledragon456k

Grew up having these in Rhode Island before I even went vegan. Good stuff!

  20. spipscards

Tomato pie is delicious. I urge the skeptics to give it a shot. This looks like a great one!

  21. This looks absolutely amazing, I’d devour that thing

  22. Farmher315

Oooooo I do love me a good tomato pie!! I’ve always had it on Sicilian dough though!! But this looks good too!!

  23. Tomato pie hurts to read 😜 😉 In Italy one of the most traditional pizza is “Marinara”, which is basically tomato sauce, garlic, origano and olive oil. It might sound a bit lame but when you have a good dough and good basic ingredients you don’t need any extras on top, it is already amazing as it is. Can’t beat a good neapolitan style Marinara 🤤

  24. Forsaken-Elephant651

Similar to fried dough with sauce, a big hit at fairs and festivals
