I just bought a big green egg off Facebook market place. I think it’s a large. However, I just noticed when I got home the hardware and how it opens isn’t lined up with the thermometer. Can I just loosen the metal and adjust it so it’s lined up correctly?

Yes, loosen and adjust then tighten the band clamp back up. I would check it again after the 1st cook.
The dome and base both have matching dots. They should line up. After tighten the band. Should be good.
Hi! $100 is a steal!
First up, it looks like you’ve got the new style hinges with the old daisy wheel, so there’s probably a bit of Frankensteining going on, not a problem, but I don’t like your chances on warranty.
I always take off the lid when I’m moving mine around, so its easy to loosen the top bolts, take of the lid and reposition it. I recommend these youtube videos [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zmaPhP-D-4&ab_channel=FOGOCharcoal](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zmaPhP-D-4&ab_channel=FOGOCharcoal) to align the lid when you’re done.
How badly are the internal ceramics damaged? My fire bowl is in a couple of pieces, and there’s a crack in the ceramic ring, but it hasn’t slowed me down one bit. I’ve replaced the conveggtor plate with the Eggspander and ceramic half plates. So long as the pieces all fit, it shouldn’t cause you problems.
Looks like the wire handle from the daisy wheel is missing too, so if you have the ceramic damper top, that thing will be bloody hot if you try to take it off to put on the damper cap at the end of a cook. You might want to look into investing in the new style regulator top.
Finally, it would have originally come with some loose ceramic “feet”, I now use a table nest as I’ve mounted the egg in a homemade table, you want the base to be elevated from the ground, so that there’s airflow under the base when cooking, otherwise you can crack the whole thing. That’s bad. You definitely need some form of nest to keep it off the ground.
Good buy, you’re going to love it!
