It’s been a minute since we’ve seen any big celebrities hitting Calgary’s dining scene, but one city restaurant was just visited by an extremely familiar face.
The city’s very own superstar Tate McRae paid a visit to Mercato, a 4th Street staple for Italian food, on Aug. 6.
The singer, a Calgary native who’s known for huge pop hits including “Sports Car” and “Greedy,” even took an adorable photo with the iconic Mercato matriarch, Mama Cathy, while she was there.
“We had a very special guest visit mama Cathy for dinner at Mercato tonight,” the restaurant said in an Instagram post.
McRae was back in her hometown for a whirlwind visit between Canadian dates for her enormous Miss Possessive tour, where she played back-to-back shows at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena on Aug. 4 and 5 before picking up again at Edmonton’s Rogers Place on Aug. 7.

In an Instagram story, McRae said being back in Calgary for the night was the “best feeling in the world,” so brb while we sob.
Mercato, the ever-popular family-run restaurant, turned 20 years old today and is no stranger to high-profile guests. Hollywood stars, including Jennifer Lawrence, Melissa McCarthy, Clive Owen, Leo DiCaprio, Emma Watson, Josh Hartnett, Reba McEntire, and Michael Buble, are just a handful of the names that have visited the restaurant in the past.
Address: 2224 4th St. SW, Calgary
