This year was the first time I've ever tried growing tomatoes. I get a late start, planting them on May 6. I watched a lot of YouTube about container tomatoes and have been pretty successful. I had a lady tell me that she couldn't ever get her tomato plants to last past June, but mine seem to be going strong, putting out lots of tomatoes and I have lots of blossoms on the top part of the plants. I had no idea which variety to plant so I got two of 5 different ones. It's been a lot of fun! I water every evening and have used Jack's tomato fertilizer about once every two weeks. I used potting soil mixed with some manure mix and hardwood mulch on top. Although I'm pretty happy with how it's going, I'd love some feedback from all the experts here!

Well done! Congratulations! I’m in NE Texas and I start the season earlier (first half of March) and finish earlier as well (first half of July.) I’m impressed with your trellis and your use of shade cloth. I always water in the morning (instead of in the evening.) The reason I do that is that fungal disease is a major problem in my yard. I’m guessing it is drier in Ft. Worth than it is up here, near the Oklahoma border. I also use larger containers (20-gallon grow bags.) But, clearly, what you are doing has worked well, so just keep up the good work!

Just out of curiosity, what 5 varieties did you plant?

If you want feedback from an amateur, I’ll just say it looks great and keep doing what you are doing.

It looks like your routine is working.

Besides the bottoms, did you do any other pruning?

Buckets is the way! I have some in fabric buckets, some in plastic bag things, and some in buckets. Buckets win

What you did right is the manure and regular watering. 👍Plus Jack’s is very concentrated. Great job.

Those plants look great, especially for your first time growing tomatoes. Did you drill holes anywhere in the buckets for drainage? What has been your favourite variety of 5 you grew?

    Impressive setup! More impressive plants!

Wow!! Congratulations on your success!! Did you use jack’s classic tomato 12-15-30? I’m asking cus fertilizing has been a huge confusion for me. Is your bucket 5 gallons? I’m growing mine in 15 gallon grow bags but they are definitely not as abundant as yours. I’m in Dallas!

Also how much water do you water daily? Like in gallon or ounces cus I don’t understand when people say inches of water or whatever 😭

Maybe think about airflow in there for next time
