Anyone use one? Buddy of mine picked one up for me on a whim and I didn’t touch it til my ceramic cracked in half and I needed it outta necessity. That was 2 years ago and I’ve been using it ever since. It’s beautifully seasoned and I cover in foil when it’s under sloppy jobs. Haven’t noticed any hotspots or weird issues with temp/radiation/etc. Love it. Fully endorse. (Could probably get cute and fry a steak or make smash burgers on it. Not sure why I’m just thinking of this now …)

I didn’t know this exists but I’m tempted, for sure. I broke a leg off of mine, and I learned when we made pizza a few months back that High Heat JB Weld fails at ~550F. There’s an Extreme Heat version… but I’d rather buy something that isn’t going to break. I don’t see why performance would be much different.

I broke the ceramic about two years back and bought that one off Amazon. It really wasn’t expensive and I wish I always had one. Only concern is dropping it on the ceramic rings when the grill is hot and you don’t have gloves on. It clangs down kind of hard. Need to leave some gloves by the grill or stop being a bitch.

I use the case deflector as well.

  4. I find it radiates heat a lot more and it’s harder to go lower temps for long.

I have one for my XL and honestly….i hate it

Been using cast iron for almost 10 years now. Can tell literally no difference plus you would have to really really try to break it

Funny enough. I’ve never used anything but the cast iron version. Was my first accessory when I got it 3+ years ago now. It is absolutely indestructible. No signs of any rust. I’ve gotten it to 500F+ temps and no adverse effects. I got a stainless shallow drip pan to help protect it from drips but that only helps so much. Keeps temps just fine. I can’t see any reason to buy the ceramic one for the durability alone. I recommend it to anyone on here that talks about their ceramic one cracking for like the third time in a row. F that nonsense.

Get the KJ divide and conquer. You won’t regret it

I have one in my Amazon shopping cart. Is it the same one with the raised grill marks? Also considered getting it more for searing and cooking rather than upside down like yours and using as a replacement heat deflector.

Do you think the grilling part will be affected by being directly over the fire when used as a heat deflector?

Fuck no. It’s not redirecting heat it’s absorbing it. Useless.

Unless you’re smoking per se pork belly cubes. In a sauce. Then panned and foiled , placed between the convegtor and the grill, it could be useful.

But for daily common practices I hate it

I’ve had this for about 4 or 5 years. After my first two I got a different deflector for when I’m smoking brisket.

I’ll use this if I need to speed up a cook because it absorbs heat and ultimately ends up raising the temperature inside your cook. If I need the cook to go fast I’ll use it

The other thing that I do with it is take off the top ring and set it on the bottom ring and sear at high heats. It’s awesome for that
