First time at Le Bouchon! Vibrant, bustling atmosphere with every table full for a Tuesday night. Attentive staff and a chef that kept peering out at every table to make sure his guests were satisfied. There was music playing but it was overshadowed by the conversations of the small room. We were lucky enough to get a corner wall table that felt a bit more private. The bill was double because of the wine we chose but the Bourgogne was worth the trial with our classic French dishes.
While I want to emphasize that nothing was bad, here is our rankings from least favorite to best.
Strawberry lemon dessert. Admittedly we were incredibly full and it was quite gluttonous, however I was not huge on the lemon custard filling and mascarpone addition. A lot of cream with a dense cake.
Steak frites. Cooked to perfection and the sauce was delightful, but the cut of meat was not my preference. The color in general was a slight turn off. I think my favorite steak frites is still at Bistro Campagne with the red wine reduction sauce.
Beet Salad. I loved their use of avocado cream instead of goat cheese. It was a delightfully zesty dish and perfect for the summer.
Classic French chicken. On a thin bed of perfect mashed potatoes and the most perfectly light crispy skin. This was a standout dish. Save some of that bread for the juice!
Octopus carpaccio. The winner of the night. Unlike anything I’ve ever tasted and the most unique way I’ve been served octopus. Also perfect for the summer but I’d honestly eat that dish any day of the year. I’m still thinking about that flavor the next morning!
Overall I really loved the experience and would absolutely go back again! Perhaps only getting a $15 glass of wine next time, but we were celebrating an anniversary. Total bill: $287
