The 1600s called and they want their rich people fruit back

They sell them for 20 bucks near me…
TrashTenko
Is that USD? Lots of countries use $ for their currency and it’s worth way less.
Edit: Just looked it up and yep, that’s 400 USD. Absolute madness.

They brag on their website about how artificial scarcity and aesthetics achieved through 16 years r&d allow them to charge absurd prices. I don’t think it’s necessarily stupid, nor even pretentious given how direct they are about the selling point. Flavor is not even top 3 most important elements in their advertising. It’s a means for those with too much money to be willingly separated from it, and they aren’t even trying to upsell what it is.

Anyone who cuts the crown off a pineapple deserves massive scorn. I understand it’s a packaging thing but it should be criminal to remove a very easy way to replant food.

Interesting to price a perishable item so high that it will never be purchased and instead left to rot on the shelf…….

America is officially the capital at this point. Enjoy your hunger games or potential Gilead or a bit of both cause this is insane.

I have heard of the famous Yubari King melon that usually sells for $200 in shops in Japan, but this is twice the price of that!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m no stranger to a fancy dinner that some might call ridiculous. I’ve eaten all sorts of weird wild stuff and paid a lot to do so.
But never IN A MILLION YEARS would I drop 4 bills on a piece of fruit that’s one of the craziest fucking things I’ve ever seen.
Vecna_Is_My_Co-Pilot
What is this shit?? They are [yellow inside anyway](https://freshdelmonte.com/rubyglow/)!! There’s nothing even special here!! They just look and taste like pineapple! I am losing my mind!

I was getting these at H-Mart for like 10-12 bucks at one point.

Wow. My husband grows white pineapples (for us – he’s a big fruit guy) and he told me they’re pretty expensive but truly the best pineapple I’ve ever had. I’ll ask him about Ruby Glows.
The price is a little outrageous, but the fruit is pretty good. Like a ruby grapefruit vs yellow grapefruit, slightly sweeter and more juicy.
But those are 8 bucks at my local co-op? Working class community. Expensive for a pineapple, but not highway robbery. You must live in a place with gullible rich people.

Pink glows used to be mad expensive too. The price will come down when they actually have a good number of plants in rotation

Why are they $14 at Wegmans
[This is how much pineapple costs online at a Carrefour in Spain.

Must be Japan.
