An oh-so-Parisian chalkboard outside Goudy’s Deli and Market beckons you into a world far from its Washington Park environs, where sandwich makers wielding locally made baguettes greet you over tempting pastry cases. Place an order, then follow your nose past shelves of European pantry staples and a freezer packed with house-made sausages toward the intoxicating aroma of Goudy’s 198-square-foot refrigerated cheese room. There, shelves stacked with wheels, bricks, and wedges from 10 countries give dairy devotees almost too much choice.

For guidance, turn to co-owners Christophe Goudy, whose family ran a meat production company near Toulouse, France, and his wife, Celine, from coastal Normandy. After the couple moved to California in 2013, Celine launched a charcuterie company based on Christophe’s family recipes; they relocated to Colorado four years ago. The Goudys met compatriot Yvan Lehuerou of Boulder cheese destination Le Frigo while selling fresh sausages and pate wholesale and at local farmers’ markets. The trio formed a partnership to open their Denver shop. When you go, don’t forget to bring a fleece so you can linger over the Limberger and gawk at the goat Gouda before absconding with your haul. 1207 E. Alameda Ave., Denver (Washington Park)
