Palm Beach Gardens’ PikNik is Yelp’s #11 Sandwich Shop in America
PikNik ranks No. 11 on Yelp’s Top Sandwich List; chef credits family for success.
Palm Beach Gardens’ PikNik sandwich shop ranks No. 11 on Yelp’s Top 100 Sandwich Shops in America list.Opened in 2021 by French-trained chef Christophe Bozzano, PikNik offers a menu of classic and gourmet sandwiches, pastries, and other French-inspired treats.Yelp reviewers consistently praise PikNik for its high-quality ingredients, delicious food, and excellent customer service.
Just in time for August’s National Sandwich Month, PikNik, the lovely sandwich shop and small-batch French bakery tucked into a busy plaza on North Military Trail in Palm Beach Gardens, earned a delicious distinction by ranking No. 11 on Yelp’s inaugural list of the Top 100 Sandwich Shops in America.
Opened by Christophe Bozzano in 2021, PikNik is his labor of love rooted in European culinary tradition. Bozzano began his culinary journey in Valbonne, France, eventually earning a Michelin Guide listing for his café there. He subsequently worked for decades as a private chef.
When we told Bozzano that PikNik hand landed on Yelp’s inaugural sandwich shop rating, he was genuinely surprised. Two days later, he received an official certificate, a branded apron and other Yelp swag.
He credits much of the shop’s success to his wife, Frances, whose support and partnership have been essential from day one. Their daughter Lorena also lends a hand at the shop, making PikNik a true family affair.
From flaky croissants to the thoughtfully crafted sandwiches, his passion for food and hospitality shines through every detail.
A standout is the sliced chicken sandwich layered with peppery arugula on a freshly baked baguette. It’s a favorite among locals, including this reporter. The baguette’s crisp exterior and pillowy interior cradle the tender chicken and greens in perfect harmony.
Other menu highlights include the croque monsieur, pain au chocolat and seasonal soups, all made with high-quality ingredients and a healthy dash of French panache. A well-stocked refrigerator showcases meals to go and other ooh-la-la treats.
What Yelpers say
Bozzano named the shop “PikNik” to evoke the joy of sharing good food with loved ones. “We could all use a little PikNik time in our lives,” he says on the shop’s website.
Of PikNik’s 123 reviews, 121 are five-stars, Yelp’s highest rating.
Karen S. in Jupiter wrote about “Excellent customer service and quick food preparation. The food was absolutely delicious — every item was something we’d order again — and we will be back — so good!”
Like hers, most of PikNik’s reviews are overwhelmingly praiseworthy.
Florida scores two top 10 slots
Yelp’s rankings were determined using a combination of factors, including the total volume and ratings of reviews for sandwich-category businesses across the U.S. Only shops with a passing health score as of May 2025 were considered.
In addition to PikNik, Florida’s best sandwich spots all ranked in Yelp’s top half and include:
Franky’s Deli Warehouse in Hiahleah tops Yelp’s first national sandwich list, crediting its subs plus warm, personal service that makes every customer feel like family. For over 25 years, owners Franky and Nanette Diaz have served made-to-order favorites like the Famous Italian and Philly Cheesesteak, earning rave reviews for both flavor and hospitality.Slightly further down the list at No. 6 is Chicago Paulies, a food truck in Tampa that’s open only three hours a day, six days each week. Yelp asked “Is it possible to replicate Chicago’s iconic Italian Beef sandwich in another state? This gas-station-adjacent walk-up-window proves it can be done, to rave reviews. One Chicago transplant proclaims Paulie’s has “the best Italian beef sandwich I’ve had… maybe ever.”Deerfield Beach boasts two sandwich joints in the top 25: SeaSide Subs at No. 16 and What’Sub at No. 23Riverview’s Box of Cubans rolled in at No. 29Louie K Subs / Club Sandwich in Sunrise landed at No. 41Gulfcoast Sourdough & Wild Yeast Breads in Tampa rose to No. 47Sandwich trendspotting
Yelp’s editors are seeing a sandwich shift in what Americans crave between two slices of bread. Comfort food is going global, with childhood favorites drawing lines at spots serving international twists. For example, Banh mi, a French-Vietnamese sandwich often layered with pickled veggies, pâté, pork and herbs, is a top pick among Yelpers.
Yelp’s editors also noted a growing trend toward gourmet sandwiches, with diners praising house-made sauces and artisanal breads. PikNik exemplifies this perfectly, offering a refined yet approachable menu that’s earned it a loyal following and now, national acclaim.
Healthy-ish vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free sandwich options are gaining traction, prompting chain delis to expand their offerings.
And while fillings vary, so do names: subs, hoagies, heroes, grinders, po’boys, spuckies, torpedoes and more depending on where you grew up. Each regional moniker reflects deep-rooted affections for this timeless handheld meal.

Whether you’re a local or just passing through Palm Beach Gardens, PikNik is worth a visit beyond Bastille Day. It’s more than a sandwich shop; consider it a slice of culinary joy, served with warm hospitality and a French accent.
