Been a great season but why are there such differences in size?

The same reason there are differences in sizes in anything that grows.

Uniformity – or lack thereof – depends on many variables. Once the plant has a few big fruits in a cluster, it will often stop investing in growing the smaller ones to similar size, moreso if resources are limited and conditions are not ideal.
Some tomato varieties tend to produce more uniform fruits than others. If that’s important to you, you can choose plants like “Bonnie Original” that were selected for this trait.
If this is a variety that usually gives you uniform fruit, it is possible that this year’s excellent growing conditions have inspired your plants to keep growing the little tomatoes that would usually abort.
Your tomatoes are very pretty, OP. Thanks for sharing!

Isn’t this the norm? People don’t realize the produce we see in the stores has had the “ugly “ fruits sorted out and only the perfect ones make it to the store.
