Well, we talk about Flint grit and that for sure defines our father. For sure. Absolutely. He’s he’s put his heart and soul into this business. In fact, if you asked him what his hobby was, this would be it. As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. Brook Cloier and Jenny Bade are the daughters of Ed Abbott. He’s a third generation of the Abbott family to run the business. Abbott’s Meat was started in 1907 and was one of the main suppliers of meat for many stores across Mid Michigan. They used to actually supply to the McDonald’s, the Wendy’s, the Burger King. That obviously has gone by the wayside as times have changed. Uh used to have six retail stores. Um those are no more. What hasn’t changed is their original Flintstyle Coney Dog sauce, which has been a staple at multiple Coney Islands across our area, including the palace. But with Abbott’s Meat closing, I had to ask. Is there anyone else that is being able to smile? Not at this time. No, not at this time. So, if you want your Coney Sauce, you better stock up now. Ad Abbott’s daughters say the decision to close the business was bittersweet, but it’s time for their dad to retire. He has eight grandchildren and who are uh getting to the point where they may have families of their own soon one day. And I think he just wants to enjoy some more time with his family. They both say it’s going to be hard to watch the place close, but the memories there will live on. Remember going after church um to Jese Valley and we delivered to um the Coney Island there and the backways of the of the Tennessee Valley Mall. Yeah. Yep. And we got to get have conies for breakfast. Um in place of going to church with mom. So we thought that was a pretty good deal. Abbott’s meat will be continuing operation through the end of 2025. As for the owner, he’s going to be spending his well-deserved time with family, friends, and going up north. Reporting in Flint, Kyle Min, Mid Michigan Now.

We Loved Those Coneys In The Genesee Valley
Thanks To Your Dad,, You Guys and Your Love Ones The Sauce Was Great
Considering I've never even heard of this, it probably won't be missed by many. Probably just one of those generational things where the customer base has all but died off
What a shame a family member couldnt continue the business. I understand regulations r horrible but to see old establishments go away is heartbreaking
I find this selfish. Why not shut down the operation except for making the coney sauce? There are so many restaurants in Michigan and across the US that use that sauce.
wtf
the sauce that is made with beef hearts ?
Share the recipe..
someone will buy the recipe and sell a new "improved" version and sell it for twice as much…
Nobody can step up and keep a turn key business running?
The once great state of Michigan needs some Republican leadership badly..
WAY too many regulations & crooked liberal family dynasty's.
