The owners of an established Italian restaurant in Greenwich on Monday opened a new location in town.
Doppio is located at 62 Main St. The word means “double” in Italian, a reference to Joseph Barresi, owner of the restaurant, and his brother, Louis Barresi, who is executive chef.

“We have a lot of nice New Canaan families that go to our Greenwich location frequently, so when this spot became available, we were very excited to take the opportunity and do our thing,” Joseph Barresi said.
“The town welcomed us with open arms,” he said. “Everybody at Town Hall, the fire department, our neighbors and the residents have been very helpful in getting us assimilated with the new location.”
The restaurant, complete with both indoor and outdoor seating on the patio, has an authentic Italian menu and bar, Louis Barresi said.
“Our food is broken up into different categories,” he said. “Antipastis, which are the small plates, include a few fried options, a few grilled and healthy options and some crudos, like tuna tartare.”
He added: “We have a freshly made pasta section. Then a pizza section that’s broken down into red and white, and then our entrees, which are split up between two different types of steaks that are both wagyu.”
Located down the alley next to the firehouse where Vicolo Pizza used to be, and then later Best Pizza Shop, Doppio underwent an extensive interior renovation.
The restaurant will feature several seasonal dishes, depending on what ingredients are available, Louis Barresi said.
There will also be a seasonal specials menu introduced in two weeks once residents are familiar with the main menu, he said.
The brothers are striving for the best experience and food for the customers, Joseph Barresi said.
“We really push to bring in the best quality ingredients and constantly try to make our dishes the best we possibly can,” he said. “The rigatoni vodka may be a simple dish, but we aim to give you the best rigatoni vodka we can possibly make.”
The brothers received lots of cooking experience and knowledge from their Italian household, Louis Barresi said.
“Food was something that was always around our family,” he said. “Our best memories are made from us eating and cooking at holidays together. The kitchen is a part of our lives.”
The bar will feature a small drinks menu, Louis Barresi said.
“We have about nine cocktails, seven red and white wines that are offered either by the glass or by the bottle, a lot of non-alcoholic options and bottled beer,” he said. “We have a small but very selective reserve list because we don’t have a ton of space, so I try to pick very good wines with the limited space we have and place them at a fair market price.”
Doppio offers many popular and specialty dishes, Louis Barresi said.
“A very popular dish is the pici pasta, which is a long tubular pasta,” he said. “When in season, the shaved artichoke salad is very popular and a dish that our customers love. Some of our classics are the meatballs and tuna tartare, which are a big hit for sure”
“The rigatoni vodka is probably our biggest seller,” Louis Barresi said. “It may seem like a simple dish, but we really focused on elevating it to the highest.”
Other classics include spaghetti carbonara and seasonal chitarra pasta with clam sauce, Louis Barresi said.
“When a customer asks us for recommendations or our favorite dish, I try to navigate them through each category,” he said. “My favorite dish on the menu is the orecchiette with broccoli and rabe and sausage. My personal favorite pizza is our napoletana, which is red based and has crushed burrata, pickled hot peppers and anchovies.”
To celebrate the grand opening, all guests will be greeted with a glass of prosecco upon arrival. Reservations can be made now on OpenTable.
