Lobster love

Niche’s nose-to-tail dinner

Niche in Geneva will celebrate the possibly lesser-known, but no-less-delicious, parts of the pig during a nose-to-tail dinner Wednesday, Aug. 27.

The cooking philosophy entails using every edible part of an animal, from its head to its feet, and is rooted in sustainability, respect for the animal and minimizing food waste.

The five-course dinner will start with pork cheek meatballs, followed by blood sausage with crispy pig ears, roasted fennel, caramelized onion and more.

A third course of pig trotter croquettes is followed by a smoked pork tenderloin served with chorizo succotash. Enjoy butterscotch pudding with chicharron coffee crumb, bourbon chantilly, crispy country ham and more for dessert.

The $100 dinner begins at 6 p.m. You can add a $30 Wild Turkey whiskey pairing, with dishes being accompanied by pours that include Russell’s Reserve 6 year rye, Russell’s Reserve 10 year bourbon, Wild Turkey 8 year bourbon, Russell’s Reserve single barrel rye and Wild Turkey Rare Breed bourbon.

Wingin’ it

A new wing concept is coming to a pair of suburban gas stations this summer. Yep, you read that right.

Woodie’s Wings will be an offshoot of Woodie’s Flat in Chicago, a restaurant that has been a multiyear winner of the People’s Choice Award at WingOut, Chicago’s largest wing festival.

The grab-and-go stores are slated to open at Gas N’ Wash, 1900 E. Hintz Road, Wheeling, and 1060 Orchard Road, Oswego, with both locations offering walk-up counter service in a 1970s-inspired space.

Woodie’s, part of the Big Onion Hospitality group, offers wings that are double-smoked and fried, with a 36-hour process from start to serving. Sauces include sriracha soy and garlic Parmesan and limited-edition offerings like the Malört barbecue. Wings can be ordered traditional or boneless by the pound.

Both locations will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Customers can order takeout via counter service or have it delivered through DoorDash, Grubhub or Uber Eats.

Wine dinner

Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar in Lincolnshire will showcase one of the world’s premier winemakers with their Night with Paul Hobbs Friday, Aug. 15.

The evening will feature four of his wines paired with a chef-curated menu for $140 per person. Diners will start with a beef empanada amuse bouche paired with Crossbarn chardonnay, followed by a white French salad and Viña Cobos cabernet sauvignon.

Grilled lamb chops are served with Viña Cobos Bramare malbec. Roasted beef tenderloin comes next with Paul Hobbs cabernet sauvignon. A Pavlova cloud with mixed berries will be served for dessert with coffee or tea.

Limited seating is still available and reservations can be made at the website.

Coming soon?

Keep an eye out for the reopening of Rosebud Naperville. The local restaurant group has been promising a summer return for three locations that have been temporarily closed for renovations. The Naperville restaurant closed in August 2024 and anticipated reopening at 22 E. Chicago Ave. by the first or second week of January, but that deadline was pushed back to summer. The original Taylor Street location recently reopened and Carmine’s Chicago is expected to open soon.
