First time using an Electric Bread Slicer! 🍞πŸ”ͺ✨

Boyyy is this a game changer for my sourdough loaves!! I had been eyeing these for a while now but didn’t want to spend too much on one. I finally gave in and got one yesterday! I was butchering my loaves using bread knives and I felt like I wasn’t getting as many slices as I could be getting out of them.. we were running out of bread quicker because of the uneven slicing πŸ˜‚πŸ₯². I would usually get around 14 slices per loaf with a bread knife but I get 20+ EVEN slices with this thing!! I am in love 😌πŸ₯Ή.

Also thank you u/Rhiannon1307 for recommending I take my loaves out 10 mins before they are ready and putting them on the metal oven rack so the bottoms get brown! It worked perfectly 🀌🏽. I was struggling to get some colour on the bottom for a long time.

(Didn’t mist any water or use ice cubes for these and they turned out great! 🀭).

can it cut cleanly without someone actively pulling the cut slice?

  2. Everyone I give a cheap Victorinox bread knife to stops using all the gadgets in about a week.

You just need a decent bread knife.

  3. Actually very common in Germany! Back in the day the bread cutting machines for at home usage used to have crank to turn the breadsaw. Nowadays it’s common to have an electric one.
Might seem gadegty but due to the high bread consumption in Germany it is an often owned and used kitchen appliance.

I use a knife. A lot more reliable and a lot cheaper. I suggest you buy a bread knife.

  5. Whats special about that? I grew up with those things. And I’m 33 now.

Isn’t this just a deli meat slicer with the thickness cranked up? My cheap deli slicer was advertised to do meat, bread and vegetables.

These work quite well! You are no less “legit” in your bread ventures using a slicer over a bread knife!

I would suggest that if looking for one, look for one with a larger blade, 8.7-9″ blade is a good size for larger loaves and other things that you might want to slice.

These are all over facebook marketplace in my area and can be found pretty cheap.

That bread slicer looks sketchy. More about the loaf pans please

LoL! Before I realized what sub I was in, I thought it was super dry turkey or pork for a second.

How do you keep the sliced bread from drying out?

I recently got an electric knife and it’s definitely a game changer for getting sandwich thin slices. You can also slice the bread hot if you can’t wait. I know you’re not supposed to but some days are like thatΒ

How thin can you cut it? I’ve been thinking of getting a deli slicer to make oklahoma burger. George motz use that to make super thin onions. I’m using benriner mandolin. It’s thin but it’s not a consistent thickness due to the angle of the mandoline

So — you do not use metal clips like these to hold the 2 loaf pans together / prevent any steam escaping ?

Do you then bake the first part ( how long ? what temp ? ) with the top covered ?

Then you seem to remove the top pan – for the 2nd half of the baking time ? so that the top of the loaf is in the open in the oven to brown ( how long ? same temperature ?)

Then you take the loaves out of the bottom pan also and just put them back for a 3rd bake ? ( temp ? time?)

    Thanks.
