Recall alert: Wegmans French cheese could contain listeria; return for refund

August 13, 2025

Wegmans Food Markets is recalling some of its cheese products after learning that it could be contaminated with the bacteria listeria monocytogenes.

The company is recalling its Wegmans Medium Camembert Soft Ripened Cheese and various other products that contain this ingredient, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced.

The products were sold in several Wegmans stores between July 1 and Aug. 12, including in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

The affected items, which all have the best by dates July 26, Aug. 12 and Aug. 19, are:

Wegmans Medium Camembert Soft Ripened Cheese, 8.8-ounce with the UPC 77890-53515Wegmans Assorted Cheese Flight, 1-pound with the UPC 2-77100-00000-0Wegmans Grilling Camembert with Tapenade & Roasted Tomatoes, 10-ounce with the UPC 2-77297-00000-0Wegmans Caramel Apple Pecan Topped Brie Cheese, 13-ounce with the UPC 2-77645-00000-3

The cheese was supplied to Wegmans by Estancia Holdings of Cumming, Georgia, who initiated a recall after the company was notified by its French supplier that three shipments it received may be contaminated with listeria.

The bacteria “can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” the FDA explained. “Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”

No illnesses associated with this recall have been reported to Wegmans or its supplier. However, customers are told to not eat the cheese and return it to the service desk for a full refund.

Automated phone calls were placed to Wegmans shoppers who are a part of the store’s loyalty program, Shoppers Club.
