I've owned my Traeger for about a month and have some good cooks, but twice now when I am am on the "Smoke" setting the temp has shot up north of 300 degrees. I tried to reset by switching to the Shut Down Cycle with mixed results. Any tips or tricks…or do I need to make a warranty claim?

Hey! It looks like you posted an image!
If this is a photo of one of your cooks, maybe share the recipe and techniques
used, as it’s almost guaranteed one of the first questions you will be asked!
*What seasoning did you use?
*How long did you cook it, and at what temperature?
*Did you use any special tricks or techniques?
Traeger on!

Had the same damn thing happen to me yesterday. Only happened a few times, but very annoying. Also temp swings are crazy some days. Not sure what the deal is. I keep my probe clean and the smoker clean. I have been eyeballing a Savannah stoker, not sure if that would help.
I was doing some researching when I first got my Traeger. My wife won it in pistol shooting competition and it didn’t come with any manual, although it was brand new. From what I’ve read, the smoke setting is based on times, not temperature. Something like the auger turns for a certain amount of time and then waits for a certain amount of time. Because of this, you may get huge fluctuations in temperature and smoke production.
Fire pot overloads and catches fire. Empty hopper use new pellets. Not Traeger brand
That smoke setting is more like a primer before you start your cook. You set to smoke, leave lid ope, when you see smoke set the dial to your desired temperature, and close lid.
At least that’s how I did it and never had any issues. I had a pro34 for years
You can try adjusting the P setting. YouTube will guide you. As others have said, the smoke setting does not use the temp probe it is timed on and off for the auger motor. P setting adjusts the time between running.
I’ve never used the smoke setting. If I want more smoke, I use a smoke tube. That’s the common method, I thought.
Smoke tubes are awesome. Eliminating the use for the smoke setting. I fimd that even with 2 smoke tubes, it doesn’t adjust your temp much at all. You will still have peaks and valleys with your temp at times. But it will average what you are going for. Oh…and also clean out your grill weekly if you use it weekly. Invest in a small shop vac or the equivalent.
Wtf that’s wild. I’ve always found that you gotta keep the hopper clean. Vacuum that out more often and you should be okay tbh
It’s bad QC. I had a 22 inch pro unit I returned last week. Tons of issues.
