Earlier in August, I went to Sabor in London with a friend and we sat at The Counter for lunch. The Counter is where you can watch the chefs cook in front of you and it was fantastic to see how they created each dish. The food is all inspired by the chef's native Spain and is designed to be sharing style.
To start, we both had a glass of sangria which was strong and refreshing with citrus fruits to cut through the red wine. This was lovely and reminded us both of our holidays in Spain.
In terms of food, we had:
- Seared Tuna with Ajo Blanco and Flaked Almonds.
- Piquillo Croquetas with Manchego Cheese
- Monkfish Tempura with Chilli Jam Aioli
- Presa Ibérica Señorío de Montanera & Mojo Verde
- Pineapple Sorbet & a daily special: Chocolate and Cherry Mousse
Each dish is heavily influenced by traditional Spanish culture and what is currently in season, making it a beautiful blend. All of the food we had was well flavoured and enjoyable and you could taste the homage to Spain. It takes crowd-pleasers like the croquetas and elevates them, making each bite moreish.
The croquetas were probably my favourite dish! Filled with a blend of piquillo peppers and Manchego, they were very addictive, and we actually had a second portion because we loved them so much. I also really enjoyed the monkfish tempura- the aioli was creamy, rich and cut through with a hint of chilli jam.
The seared tuna was a lovely start to the meal, served cold to allow the flavours to really sing. The Presa Iberico and the little potato like fries was a beautiful take on the traditional English style of meat and potatoes. Every bite was a masterpiece in excellent simplicity.
As for the desserts, the pineapple sorbet was crisp and cooling – it was a great way to cut through the richness of our lunch. The chocolate and cherry mousse was pure indulgence and I loved the caramelised nuts, they added texture and interest.
All in all, I'd say it was a fabulous meal, excellent value for money with warm, impeccable service.
