An urgent product recall has been made for several types of cheese sold at supermarkets, including Woolworths, Coles, Aldi and IGA, over contamination fears.

There are concerns that several types of brie and camembert may contain listeria monocytogenes, a type of pathogenic bacteria which can cause severe illness.

Pregnant women, unborn babies, newborn babies, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals are particularly susceptible to serious effects.

The general population can also become ill from consuming food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Where have the affected products been sold?

The Aldi products have been sold in stores across NSW, ACT, VIC, QLD, SA and WA.

Products by the brand Global Food Groups Pty Ltd have been available for sale in Woolworths, Coles, IGA and other independent grocery stores both nationally and online.

What should I do with my cheese?

Customers have been advised not to eat these products. The products should be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Anyone with health concerns should seek medical advice.
