WEST READING, Pa. – Thousands of French Fry fanatics packed the streets of West Reading on Saturday.

French Fry Fest was back and bigger than it was ever before on Penn Avenue

“We have the chicken with the waffle fries, tomatoes, onions, jalapenos on the side,” said Tonya Miller of West Reading.

Tonya Miller and Michael Schroeder were among the thousands of people here.

“It’s another great West Reading festival that on the street that brings out the community.  It’s a little warm today, but other than that it’s absolutely spectacular,” said Schroeder.

They bought fries from Taqueria Camalli.

“It’s been great.  We’re really excited.  French Fry Festival finally came back after two years,” said Erik Arizmendi, owner of Taqueria Comalli.  “This year around, we took our fries that we normally do at the festival and kind of amped them up, did a little bit of fresh queso that we make now and just pile them high, get some protein on there,” said Arizmendi.

In its seventh year, French Fry Fest is even bigger than it was before.

“Turnout is fantastic, even in the heat people still came out which is really awesome to support West Reading, so we’re really excited about that,” said Arizmendi.

Vendors said it has been nonstop business and they plan to make several hundred pounds of fries.

“We underestimated how many fries we’d go through today,” said Kim Cox with Buckwalter’s Smokehouse.

Cox is serving everything from voodoo fries to Louisiana fries.

It is a French Fry Fest Cox said she will certainly be returning to in the future.

“It’s very fast-paced, a lot of energy, a lot of fun.  The customers are great to work with,” said Cox.
