we had dinner at Restaurant 212 in Amsterdam, and I can honestly say it was one of the most memorable dining experiences I’ve had in a while
From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and refined. Intimate without being stiff, and buzzing with quiet energy. The service was flawless: attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. The way the tables and seating are all focused towards the central kitchen is really a nice touch.
Now, the food absolutely outstanding. While all dishes were excellent some stood out for me:
The amuse of Shiitake set the tone perfectly—umami-rich and beautifully balanced.
The kingcrab poached in smoked butter, served with courgette flower and a sauce of verveine and piparra peppers, was a standout.
And the crispy veal sweetbread with cream of BBQ sardines was bold but very well balanced. The sweatbread was cooked to perfection and not too greasy without becoming dry.
The dessert of apple is a signature dish that the team already prepared in their old venue in Amsterdam. Lovely dish.
The wine list is varied but a bit classic leaning. Prices are what you can expect in a 2* restaurant these days.
Highly recommended.
