When I was kid, I used to love the doenjang-jjigae (Korean soybean paste stew) my mother made.
Especially when she cooked it in a ttukbaegi (Korean stone pot), watching the bubbling broth rise to the surface was mesmerizing. I’d scoop a spoonful of rice and enjoy it with the steaming hot stew—it was pure comfort.

These days, I live far from my mother and can't experience that exact taste anymore. But every time I cook doenjang-jjigae in a ttukbaegi, it brings back those warm memories.

Do you have a dish that instantly takes you back to your childhood?

I’d say, for me, it’s mandu that my maternal grandma used to make for me. It’s sad that I can’t have that anymore and no one can even come close to how she made it.
Second dish would be a Yookgae-jang. Also, brings back memories of me eating the dish for the first time and how good it was because it was made by my maternal grandma. I miss her dearly.

Btw, that doenjang-jjigae looks SO GOOD. That and some good radish kimchi in cubes would be….rice killer!
