Bought my first grill, a used weber for $100 off the marketplace without thinking.
After noticing peeling paint, and rusted and blackened interior, my wife is saying it was a waste of time and money.
I tried cleaning the interior to remove the rust without much luck.
Is this worth saving and if so any tips?
Thank you

That’s a great price on a great grill. OEM stainless grates are $100 on their own.

The only issue is if your time was worth it. It’d be worth it for me.

Looks fine. It’s a grill. A brand new one will look like that in a year . Does it cook a steak ? Good to me

I respectfully disagree with your better half.

  4. liquor_up

You only got ripped off if you don’t cook the best food possible on it.

  5. Genesis with stainless grates? That’s easily 5-6 bills right there. Those rusty covers over the burners are meant to be replaced every year or two. Get some new burners if they’re shot while your at it.

It’s Stainless Steel.. probably just needs a good scrubbing.. if the burners are burnt out they can be replaced.. a quick online search will show you the cost new.

    That’s a hell of a deal and a hell of a grill.

Clean that baby up with some oil, fire, and a scrubber of some sort and you’re golden grahams my friend.

Make sure she doesn’t get any of the first cook!

not even close to a rip off. great grill

I paid $800 for my Webber new, so that seems fine.

I was typing the opposite of this but I decided to back it up. Cook your wife the best BBQ on there so she admires your keen bargain shopping and grilling abilities!

  12. Your wife expects showroom clean. She probably thinks this has been used daily for 2 years. But this looks more like 4 cooks to me.

Edit: oh you cleaned it, still looks great. And there’s no rust on the grates, you are fine. On the flavorizer bars, the rust is because they get super hot but you can just leave them alone for the most part.

I have that grill. Still going strong after 10+ years. Who cares if the inside is black and rusted. That’s what a used grill looks like. Unless the burners are rusted out clean it up and use it. If the flavourizer bars are rusty, so what? That’s what they look like after a few weeks. Every part is replaceable. I had to do the knobs once already. you got a $1000 grill for $100 and gas money.

Can’t beat a Weber let alone for $100 and some time/elbow grease

Good deal! Clean it up and keep it maintained and it should serve you well!

  16. You already know she’s not right. But you can tell her we said she’s right if it gets you laid

Get a new wife… That’s a once in a lifetime deal you’ve got there, congrats

You won bro! I have my Genesis for over 12 years now and it works just as a great as when it was new

  19. LostinLies1

Dude…your wife is sooooo wrong. It just needs a solid scrubbing.
You got a helluva grill! Congrats!

  20. I feel like you’re playing a game with us. That’s a fantastic value for a grill that you can be proud to show your friends. You should feel proud. If she doesn’t get it, just tell her she looks pretty while you dazzle her with your meat.

My parents have the exact same grill! They’ve had it over 10 years. It’s been the beating heart of many holiday weekends and family barbecues.

Oh shit, and you got the sear burner.

So I have this grill without the sear station and in natural gas (so it hooks up to the house). Mine is 9 years old.

I just spent about hundred bucks to replace the burners and the igniters, plus i bought some deep cleaning stuff, scrapers, etc… Because it’s worth it to just fix it than buy a new $1,000 grill.

And make no mistake. That’s a $1k grill.

    Getting for a $100 is a steal.

Just replace the metal pieces under the cooking grates. You can get them on grill parts for $60

Great deal. Not sure what your wife based her opinion on

  24. stybeaujolais

seems like a good deal. clean it up and it will run like a champ.

  25. ruinsalljokes

I bought that for more recently – you did good.

I have almost the identical grill and paid around 1100 3.5 years ago from Lowe’s. It has been a great grill. Webber holds the temp really well. Looks like it’s a really good shape.

My stainless Genesis S-330 I has stainless burners. Still on the original set bought new in 2012, that same grill you have and fires to 700 degrees (natural gas). All I’ve replaced are the knobs, the flavor bars, and the temp gauge in the lid.

  28. EstablishmentBig8887

Your wife doesn’t know what she’s talking about

  29. mopar-or-no_car

Wait till fall you can buy grates for 50 or 60 percent off.

I bought a new set for my pop, they were 160 for stainless steel ones, paid 50+ tax last fall.

They’re back to full price right now.

Tell your wife to stay in the indoor kitchen. You will handle the outdoor kitchen.

  31. Don’t listen too Her!!! No food 🥘 for you WOMAN 🧍‍♀️!!! You get a salad

  32. dospennies

Checklist: Burners, hoses, ignition switch, bottom panel, grates.. even replacing those via Amazon should still save you about $300. I usually put about $20-30 every 2 years for the same model

  33. MassCasualty

I have this exact grill in gray. It’s 12 years old and you would think I got it last year. Cover it, care for it. Love it!

  34. orgildinio

    Nahh bro,

Clean it through and you are good to go! Apparently your wife has 0 knowledge about grill

  35. NO, weber wil have parts to repair available, they are well built ! this is not a brand you buy to throw away 2 years after because it’s all eaten by the rust. blackened interior LOL it’s a grill ! not a washer
