    how much would it cost to rent a 9 square foot plot of garden James Prigioni i live in edmonton alberta canada so it will be more expensive here than Jersey probably as the Candian dollar holds less value

    The bugs and slugs are so vicious this year. I put out seeds for carrots, radishes, beets, rutabaga, beans, peas, sunflowers, squash, cucumbers, various greens, and celery, and the bugs ate the seeds before they could even sprout and they also ate the small plants from seedlings I started inside. All those plants have done really well here in previous years. Basically the only thing they spared were my tomatoes. Insect netting didn't stop them at all.

    It was so hot today I couldn't even finish my bike ride and that's not normal for me! So here I am cooling down with some fresh raw applesauce, watching your videos. They are always so inspirational! Missing the Middlesex County Fair again this year. I'm really looking forward to growing my winter veggies down here in Florida 9a. A fair amount of broccoli, purple cabbage, red clover, and arugula survived under my oak canopy this year! so I am going to add that to all my August-September plantings soon.

    Last year I had a really great tomato year but this year I had blossom end rot so I’m thinking about just treating the ground with the lime and more nutrients so next time i can have beautiful tomatoes again.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

    I'm doing this James as my summer garden did not grow hardly at all ! So sad that the weeds just took over and the dry weather turnd my soil to almost sand😢. Thanks for the reminders!

    I have an option for carrot germination & planting. Spread seed in a shallow dish with lid. Place dish in warm area. (I put mine on my boiler) Mist them regularly. Fill single sides of paper/cardboard egg cartons with soil. Poke a pencil width hole in bottom of each. When the seeds sprout, move them to the egg cartons. Mist them and loosely cover. Keep warm & moist. Once they are 1/2 inch or so tall, snip the carton compartments, plant the entire little carton packet. It also provides spacing 🙂 It worked beautifully for me.

    love your energy! due to wet weather i limited planting this year went half the garden with garlic due to rabbits, a dirty word here wv, any suggestions beside raised beds for rabbit issues? maybe also a cover crop they wont eat:>

    I'd have to disagree about "carrots have to be surface sowed". First, they don't actually need light to germinate (you cover them with a board yourself.) Second, I planted mine just under the surface (about 1cm,) watered them in and covered with a board in mid July. They started poking out about 3 days later.

    On a somewhat related note, the heat seems to help them germinate quickly. Same seed (and same method) took ~2 weeks in the spring.

    This is alot of great information. Thank you for sharing. I have a question. I'm using a vertical gardan to grow my crops. I will not be able to put a board over my carrots any suggestions? I do have a green house like cover I can place in each compartment. Will that do the trick?

    What's left for you is almost my ectopic growing season. We had 3 hail storms the last week of July and some in June.
