(KMDL-FM) If you know one thing about Louisiana, it’s hot. If you know two things about Louisiana, it’s hot and the food is good. We tend to focus on the last one and just tolerate the first one because we can’t do anything about the heat, but we sure as heck can make the food memorable.

Louisiana is a state of food towns. New Orleans is world-renowned for its variety of restaurants. In Acadiana, the portion of the state where you’ll find Lafayette, Crowley, Church Point, Eunice, and New Iberia, you’ll find the focus is on Cajun traditions in the kitchen.

Heck, even Shreveport has a diner that’s been honored for generations for its delicious homemade breakfasts and lunch dishes. But the main reason people like to go there and park in the back is because of the pie. Don’t believe me, give Strawn’s Eat Shop a try and you’ll see why Southern Living honored them.

What Is Food Network’s Favorite Pizza Place in Louisiana?

But the honors we are discussing today come from the Food Network, and they also have to do with a dish that is not normally a top-of-mind choice when one thinks about Louisiana cuisine. The dish in question is pizza, and yes, we have more than a few establishments that have “Cajunized” a pizza pie in more ways than one.

However, the selection committee or group of writers who collaborated on Sara Ventiera’s article for the Food Network didn’t opt for the best local adaptation of pizza. Their mission seemed to be firmly rooted in detailing for you the 50 States of Pizza Slices.

The pizza that the foodies at Food Network suggest that we all try comes from a place in New Orleans that is very upfront about their name and what they do. The name of the place is Pizza Delicious. The joint was the brainchild of two Tulane undergrads who simply wanted a better slice of pizza.

They started Pizza Delicious as a food truck venture, but soon grew into a brick-and-mortar space a little over ten years ago. All it takes is a quick perusal of the extensive menu, and you can see that deciding on what to get is going to take some time.

Pizza Delicious offers New York-style pies, specialty pies, pasta dishes, veggie options, and a selection of sides and salads to complement their pizza-making prowess.

If you’re in New Orleans and hungry for pizza, check them out at 617 Piety in NOLA. Piety, I wonder if they chose that street location on purpose. It’s a great name for a road with a pizza joint on it.
