The first picture is me four years ago when I ate a 100% plant-based diet. No makeup. I ate a mix of both healthy whole-foods and the occasional “junk food vegan” stuff. My skin was BEAUTIFUL! I NEVER got any pimples, plus health-wise I had SO MUCH ENERGY!!! And happiness. Oh my god I genuinely felt almost godlike it was a euphoric experience. Just two years of pure health, beauty, and happiness. I spent two years plant-based and it was the best decision I had ever made for myself.
The second picture is me now with no makeup. After two years of going back to animal products. A couple years back, I got pregnant and was pressured by everyone to stop eating only plant based. I gave into the pressure. Then, I miscarried and spiraled into a really bad depression. I started eating like crap and never stopped. Now I eat a heavy animal-based diet and well….look what it’s done to my skin. Not just my skin, but my health in general. I’m sluggish, and while I am in the healthy bmi range for my height, I am not visibly fit like I used to be. I’m not flexible like I used to be. I’m just…I’m so unfit, my skin is dull and I’m insecure. My body, my skin, my health, my beauty. It’s all gone down since I’ve stopped eating plant-based.
So, today I’ve made a vow to go back to that wonderful way of eating. Not just way of eating, but way of LIVING! When I was plant-based, I also got into some woo woo hippie spiritual stuff and regardless of what some may believe about that, it really did do wonders for my mental and physical health. Meditation, yoga, dancing, art and plant-based eating were the key to my health back then. I’ve just got to start again. Starting today. Just look at those pictures….there’s a HUGE difference! You can just tell which way of eating and living was better for me….

One thing is be easy on yourself being 18 it be easy to look back on it with heaviness, but you were looking forward to growing then and you are growing now ! bad stuff is also part of growth
Good luck with it.
By roughly making 90% of your meals the [starches](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5wfMNNr3ak) (listed [here](https://www.drmcdougall.com/education/free-mcdougall-program/starch-staples/)) in [this color picture book](https://www.drmcdougall.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Dr-McDougall-Color-Picture-Book.pdf) (explained more in [this lecture](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E58pqWHxAjI)) means that you are basically eating like the populations with [virtually no heart disease, diabetes, etc…](https://www.drmcdougall.com/misc/2013nl/feb/pritikinpdf3.pdf) who all have total cholesterol [below 150](https://thankful2plants.com/heart-disease/total-cholesterol-150-ldl-70/index.html) (see also [this](https://old.reddit.com/r/Cholesterol/comments/18f6yqs/is_becoming_veganvegetarian_necessary/kcw5knr/)) or so on average, and [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u975zvMv9k0) explains how to use all this for weight/fitness.
What does this mean in practice? Food like potatoes covered in sriracha sauce or sweet chili sauce or [sriracha mayo](https://www.reddit.com/r/PlantBasedDiet/comments/14tdbaf/low_fat_recipes/jr2nipv/), mashed potatoes covered in a gravy made from blended beans/lentils/split-peas and blended vegetables and e.g. soy sauce/spices, rice covered in soy sauce, vegan sushi with a tiny sliver of avocado and maybe tofu, sticky mango rice with sweet potato mashed into the rice, pasta covered in pasta sauce, oil-free noodle stir fries, oats with frozen fruit and a bit of [sugar](https://www.reddit.com/r/PlantBasedDiet/comments/14eoaow/sugar_cane/jow23dg/) and maybe low fat de-fatted peanut powder for variation, blended split pea soup and potatoes, bean burritos, bean enchiladas, where in at least one meal a day you have a big side of non-starchy vegetables: carrots, broccoli, spinach, muishrooms, greens, peppers, etc…
To actually be able to defend yourself on the facts the next time people try to scare you, the links in [this](
https://old.reddit.com/r/SugarDiet/comments/1kswhp9/the_facts_on_carbs_fat_protein_etc/) explaining how unbelievably low our needs for fat, protein etc and why carbs are the most important thing, so peoples nonsense doesn’t throw you off in the future.
Sorry for your loss.
