This question goes out to those of us with blades or serrated edges on our grill spatulas. Have you ever used those to cut anything, ever? I mean on purpose.

I mainly use them to help move things around, dont think ive ever purposefully cut with them

  2. Carne_Guisada_Breath

I have used the to cut up sausages for immediate eating while other things were on the grill cooking. But only outside by the grill. I have better knives inside.

  3. Seraphtacosnak

I used it to open certain packages mostly horribly.

If you have a griddle on your grill, you can use it to chop up steak strips for cheesesteak sandwiches.

  5. tropic420

I used it the other day to sever legs off a spatchcocked chicken

  6. Adept_Ad_4369

I generally use it to cut myself when I pull it out of the drawer or dishwasher

If you are attacked when you bbqing then it makes a sweet weapon.

Its like a swiss army knife. Many of the tools are there for emergency use only and basically suck if you need to use them regularly.

You guys have never worked grill security, and it shows. Summer of ’19. The Great Possum Uprising. They came at dusk, silent, drawn by the scent of my hickory-smoked sausages. My tongs were useless, my fork a child’s toy. But this spatula… this glorious, serrated spatula… it was my shield and my sword. We held the patio for three hours. So many lost sausages… *shudders*. Never grill without one.

This is for cutting off ‘the chefs portion/quality control’ for whatever is being cooked.

All the time actually. When I’m grill thighs for fajitas, I like to double check my cook is correct.

  12. Ambitious-Echidna-45

I use it to open sausage and hotdogs packages

  13. My dad uses them to cut into his steaks/burgers/whatever while still on the grill to see if they’re “done”. It’s terrible.

  14. I have a cast iron griddle that I put on my grill. When I push it to the back for better heating, the serrated edge is great to drag the griddle back to the front again. Aside from warding off the occasional zombie attack that is all it’s good for. IMHO

Use mine all the time tailgating and cut buns with it before I start grilling.

  16. BeaverBoyBaxter

I bought one without one specifically because of this. Why does it exist?

  17. Snoo_69677

Yes, I used it to cut sausage patties into small squares when making breakfast burritos

  18. Successful_Gap8927

My family used ours for branding each other

  19. Cutting open bags of charcoal because I can’t find the string to pull on

  20. ishootthedead

I use them to destroy my sponge while washing BBQ tools.

  21. JacPhlash

    Real answer- yes.

I’ve done some back-to-school cookouts for over 100 people and I use that serrated side to cut into the packaging, and score hot dogs before throwing them on.

  22. Primary_Dimension470

Cut apart hot dogs that have casings tied together

  23. RedLeader_13

I use it to cut the package on the meet for sausages before I throw them on the grill

  24. dudebronahbrah

I just used it as a grill scraper last night when I discovered my grill brush had disintegrated lol

  25. wafflekid_69

Use them to cut the hot dog packages open but it works so poorly

  26. MaximusCanibis

I use them to hit people that try to take over my grill.

  27. Old-Juice-2490

can help at casseroles lasagna brownies sheet cakes and pies or even pizza without switching tools.
lift, cut , serve with the same spatula.

  28. I use that side on my burger buns usually as I store them frozen and I sometime need to force a cut to separate them.

  29. AwesomelyxAwesome

Yes! Particularly on the hibachi like chicken fried rice or taco meat.

  30. SolidFluid420

Hotdog buns and burger buns that haven’t been cut open yet. Like kaiser rolls. They don’t come cut open, but having that serrated blade on the spatula helps when you’re doing something like that.

  31. The ones with the bottle opener are more convenient

  32. EBN_Drummer

Never used it and eventually got rid of my grill spatula. I just use a metal grill/griddle turner like you’d find the cook using in a greasy diner. Works great on my cast iron pans and grill.

  33. EastMetroGolf

Between my smoker, griddle and weber grill I have about 37 versions of spatulas, forks, and tongs. I also have a steel bar about 2′ long that has notches in it on the end. Don’t remember where I got it, but I do remember looking at it and saying, i need this for the grills. Perfect for lifting grill grates.

Moral of the story. One can not have enough tools for cooking.

  34. I’ve used it making Philly’s on the Blackstone. Also to cut into something and check doneness if I forgot to grab an thermometer.

  35. Gopokes34

It’s my primary household knife. What true bbq’ers do.

  36. Even-Conclusion9596

Only when my in-laws are over so I can butcher the perfect burgers I just grilled to prove that they are in fact, well done. And ruined.

    But it makes them happy.

  37. torgeaux42

That’s my hear a noise, what’s up in the middle of the night self defense choice.

  38. racerx2oo3

I use it to slice open bags of pellets for my pellet smoker.
