New Jersey may be packed with pizza joints, but one shop stands out above them all, according to the Food Network.
Earlier this summer, the popular culinary channel put together a list of the best pizza slices in each state.
New Jersey’s representative on the list wasn’t one of the old-school classics. But it is a place real New Jersey pizza-lovers know — Dominick’s Pizzeria in Newton.
Here’s what Food Network said about Dominick’s Pizzeria:
Dominick’s Pizza has been open since the early 1960s. It is currently owned by brothers Peter, Sal and Frankie Lombardo, who indeed learned the pizza craft in the Carroll Gardens neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Dominick’s claim to be the first and oldest pizzeria in Newton, and serves classic pies, pasta dishes, sandwiches and other classic Italian eats.
Their “Palermo Pie” — a New York-style square pie swirled with marinara and topped with red onions, herbs and spices — was ranked No. 64 on NJ.com’s list of the 101 best pizzas in New Jersey.
L&B Spumoni Gardens in Brooklyn was New York’s representative on the list, Pittsburgh-based chain Primanti Bros. was honored in Pennsylvania and Da Legna in New Haven was Connecticut’s pick.
